During the 1800s, it was normal to hear about famous people who received their education at home. Growing up in a family that was extremely poor, Louisa May Alcott had to work to help support her family. Born in 1832, it was not unheard of at the time to be home-schooled, and since she was working to help with the expenses, it only made sense that she was taught her education at home. Louisa had written the novel, Little Women, that is still popular now. Many other people who were home-schooled include; Susan B. Anthony (who was born in 1820 and was a feminist and civil-rights activist), the inventors; Alexander Graham Bell and Thomas Edison, and Robert Frost, the poet.
All of those people were alive during the time when there was no such thing as the telephone, internet or television; so distractions were less likely to be an issue. How many people today have the time, let alone, the patience to actually spend time at home with their children, teaching them all of the things that are learned in a typical school setting? Apparently there are a lot of celebrities out there whose parents took the time to make sure they not only got a good education at home (or even on a tour bus), but ended up becoming multi-million dollar celebrities at the same time.
10) Justin Bieber, Singer
Justin Bieber grew up in Canada, in a low-income neighborhood and was raised by a single mother, Pattie Mallette. As a child, he learned to play several different instruments, (including the guitar), and decided to put a lot of his work on Youtube. In 2007, he was “discovered” by Scooter Braun, the marketing executive for Usher, after Justin was seen in several videos. Justin then signed a contract with Raymond Braun Media Group (RBMG) and ended up becoming a huge success. He was in a traditional school as a child, but as his fame grew, he needed to be schooled in a less-than-traditional way. In his high school years, Justin had tutors to help him through the studying and recently took a test that proved he graduated. 8) Jason Taylor, NFL Star
The former Defensive End for the Miami dolphins, Jason Taylor, grew up in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, where he was home-schooled. One day he was able to join the football team in the town and even got a scholarship to the University of Akron. Eventually, the NCAA (National Collegiate Athletic Association) revoked his scholarship when they found out that he was home-schooled. Knowing that being home-schooled is almost the same as being in a traditional school, with the exception of other students and no busing, Jason decided to do something about this and fought back. He was able to get back his scholarship, with the help of the Home School Legal Defense Association. Because of Jason; today, players that are home-schooled can rightfully obtain scholarships to colleges when they are eligible.

1) Condoleeza Rice
During the terms of George W. Bush, the former president of the United States, people may remember the name Condoleeza Rice from many press conferences and news viewings while he was in charge. She served as his national security advisor during the first term, and was the first female African-American secretary of state (during his second term). Condoleeza has a very impressive resume; also working for George W. Bush’s father; George H.W. Bush, as an affairs advisor. She also works on polices in the middle east, was a professor at Stanford and according to Business Week, “In September 2010, Rice became a faculty member of the Stanford Graduate School of Business and a director of its Global Center for Business and the Economy.”
Condoleeza grew up in a time where segregation was still in order, and even remembers hearing a bomb go off that killed a friend of hers when she was very young. After kindergarten, Condoleeza was too young to make it into the first grade, so she was home-schooled for a year before she went back to regular school. Her parents continued to help her out with studies; such as teaching her piano and foreign languages, while she was in a “normal” school. Even though she was home-schooled at a young age, Condoleeza Rice has proven that it does not matter where you go to school, as long as you have the determination, anyone can go far in life and make a difference.
