Television shows are sometimes like a relationship. They start out amazing, but don't always live up. Two people start a relationship and are madly in love and can't wait to see each other, but suddenly, everything starts to go downhill. The way they envisioned the relationship to go is very different than what actually happens. Eventually, they can't stand each other and never want to see the other…until the whole season is released on Netflix…wait…maybe the last part doesn't apply to relationships. Sometimes, TV can break a viewer's heart and maybe it's the viewers fault for having high expectations. Some TV series come out with a huge bang. The hype is massive and everyone is talking about it. But for one reason or another, some series can't maintain a certain quality or can't keep viewers hooked. Here is a look at 12 TV shows that went from good to bad.

That 70's Show followed the lives of teenagers growing up in the 1970's. The series was highly successful and made huge stars out of its cast, which included, Topher Grace, Ashton Kutcher, Mila Kunis and Laura Prepon. The series was noted for its humor, writing and depictions of the 70's. However, Topher Grace, who played Eric Forman, shockingly left the series after season 7. There was a huge backlash against new character, Randy. Many felt that series wasn't the same without Eric. Regardless, the series remains a huge hit and favorite amongst fans.
11) Community September 17, 2009 - Present

Community follows the lives of a study group at a community college. The series has been highly praised for its humor, writing and amazing cast. The first three season received universal praise. The creator, Dan Harmon, left the series after its third. The fourth season received mixed reviews and many thought that the series would soon come to an end. However, Dan Harmon returned for the critically acclaimed fifth season. The show was cancelled by NBC in May of 2014 and by June, had been picked up by Yahoo Stream for a 6th season.
10) Scrubs October 2, 2001 - March 17, 2010

Scrubs was a popular medical comedy-drama, that followed the lives of interns and doctors at Sacred Heart Hospital, and featured actors such as Zach Braff, Donald Faison, Judy Reyes and Sarah Chalke. The series was universally critically acclaimed. It was especially praised for its ability to mix humor and drama. The series returned for season 9, but went from focusing on interns and doctors to med students. It featured a mostly new cast and received negative reviews. The series was cancelled after season 9.
9) Dexter October 1, 2006 - September 22, 2013

Dexter revolved around the life of a blood splatter analysis, Dexter Morgan, who moonlights as a serial killer, targeting only criminals. Dexter starred Michael C. Hall as the star. Overall, the series has received high praise for its cast, writing and themes. Some seasons received some negative reviews. The fourth season is universally critically acclaimed. However, the series received some criticism for the series finale. The series ends with Dexter becoming a lumberjack. Some critics and fans were disappointed by the finale, while others were much more positive. Many recognized the irony in Dexter's fate and felt it was fitting.

Gossip Girl followed the lives of privileged, wealthy young adults living in New York City. Each episode is narrated by the mysterious Gossip Girl. The series had a rocky start and received mostly negative reviews for its first season. However, the second season was a great improvement and was highly praised by both critics and fans. The series had a such a great impact, that it was partially responsible for an increase in tourists visiting New York. The ratings gradually decreased but maintained its core audience. The series received an enormous amount of criticism for revealing character Dan Humphrey, as Gossip Girl. Yes, Dan a man was revealed to be Gossip Girl. This reveal presented numerous plot holes. Regardless, the series is considered one of the greatest teen dramas.
7) The Office March 24, 2005 - May 16, 2013

The Office was a mockumentary style sitcom that followed the lives of employees of a small paper company. The show was known for its fantastic writing, talented cast and bringing back the phrase, "that's what she said". However, the series saw a major decline in quality and ratings following the departure of the ever-so-loved, Steve Carell. However, the series finale was highly praised and wrapped up many long term storylines, making its fans pleased. Additionally, the show also put stars such as, Ed Helms, Mindy Kaling, Craig Robinson and Ellie Kemper on the map.
6) Gilmore Girls October 5, 2000 - May 15, 2007

Gilmore Girls revolved around the lives of a single mother and her daughter, living in the town of Stars Hollow. The series was universally critically acclaimed. The series was praised for its writing, cast and blending humor and drama. However, the creator Amy Sherman-Palladino, could not come to terms with the CW and left the series. A whole new writing staff was then brought in. Many fans and the cast were very disappointed by the series finale. Amy Sherman-Palladino has also expressed disappointment with the finale. There has been talk of doing a Gilmore Girls movie to make up for it, and Amy Sherman-Palladino has reportedly shown interest in returning.
5) Lost September 22, 2004 - May 23, 2010

Lost revolved around survivors of a plane crash, living on a mysterious island. The series was massively popular amongst its fans, and its first season has been praised for its unique storytelling. It won the Emmy for Best Series in its first season. However, the second and third seasons received mixed reviews. The show improved for the rest of the series, but never returned exactly to where they were in season one. The show received criticism for raising more questions and not giving enough answers, concerning the long term story arcs and mythology. The series finale has been praised by some, while others hated it and felt betrayed. Regardless, many critics consider the series one of the greatest of all time.
4) Twin Peaks April 8, 1990 - June 10, 1991

Twin Peaks revolved around the murder of a young girl in the mysterious and bizarre town of Twin Peaks. The series was a massive success and was one of the most watched pilots in 1990. It was highly praised for its writing and cast. The series is considered revolutionary, as it brought the cinematic feel to TV. However, due to the network moving its timeslot around, the show declined in ratings. The network then forced the writers to reveal the murderer of Laura Palmer mid-way through season 2. This led to an even bigger decline in ratings. The series ended with a highly ambiguous finale. Regardless, it's often cited as one of the greatest shows of all time. The series will be returning for a 9 episode run in 2016.

Desperate Housewives revolved around the lives of four women living on Wisteria Lane. The series was an instant success and was one of the four most watched TV shows in its first season. The second season received mixed reviews with many pointing out a decline in the quality of scripts. As the series continued, there was a further decline in the series and the show received less nominations for awards. However, the show did maintain a strong fan base for the most part. Although the series finale has been praised by critics, it has received fairly mixed reviews from fans.

Heroes followed the lives of normal people discovering that they have superhuman abilities. The series did very well upon its debut. Many critics considered it to be one of the best new shows that season. The ratings started off really good for the series but the second season was the beginning of the decline. Many felt there was a lack of focus, much slower pace and the introduction of too many new characters, instead of expanding on characters from the first season. The last two seasons had similar reactions from fans and critics. The series fell from the top of the ratings to nearly last. The series is excepted to return in 2015 with a mini-series.

The X Files revolved around two F.B.I Special Agents, Fox Mulder and Dana Scully, investigating paranormal and bizarre cases. The series was tremendously successful both critically and commercially. The series was noted for its writing, story arcs and cast. It was also well known for the incredible sexual tension between the two main characters. The last two seasons saw Fox Moulder, played by David Duchovny, have a reduced role and appeared less. Many critics felt there was a huge decline in quality of the show and that it lost its spark. Also, the intense sexual tension between the two leads was gone and it greatly affected the show. However, it remains one of the greatest and most influential series.
