Everyone loves to study pics of celebrities that look alike. In this diverse world of ours, it’s funny to see how similar people can be. It’s been said that everyone has a twin, and when we look at some stars, we start to think that maybe it’s true. After all, Minka Kelly and Leighton Meester look like the same person, as do Ryan Reynolds and Ryan Gosling. But that’s to be expected, as women look like other women due to their long hair and overly done makeup, and men look like other men due to their close-cropped hair and scruffy stubble. Where it gets interesting is when we find women that look like men.
It’s basically like finding a needle in a haystack, because by their very nature, women and men are designed to look different. It’s really exciting when we see a celebrity female that resembles a male celebrity, because it’s so unexpected – and taboo. You can call a woman “ugly,” “fat” or “dumb,” but when you start comparing her looks to a man’s, you cross into uncharted territory.
So just for the fun of it, we are listing 15 female celebrities that look like male celebrities in this piece. Some physical similarities seem like coincidences, while other celebs look like they’ve been separated at birth. So sit back, relax, and enjoy the show.
15. Julia Roberts and Steven Tyler
Julia Roberts has let herself go over the last many years. She’s no longer the hottie from Pretty Woman. She can’t even pull off an aging sophistication like the professor she played in Mona Lisa Smile. So, what is she left with? - Looking like Steven Tyler’s sister, who also happens to be his roadie. Burn! They have three major things in common. The first is their wide mouths that are filled with horse teeth. The second is their squinty eyes that are covered in unattractive glasses. And the third is their hair, which can only be described as bed-head (at best). Tyler led a crazy life, filled with addiction, touring and womanizing. But what’s Roberts’ excuse? She’s led a pampered life filled with movie sets, assistants and mansions. Letting herself go so much that she resembles a man just seems to communicate that she’s given up – and that she’s taken all her success for granted.
14. Jennifer Connelly and Daniel Day Lewis
Jennifer Connelly is generally regarded as being a flawless beauty. This is no small feat since she’s been in the biz since the 80s. But this pic makes us see her in a whole new light. She looks alarmingly like Daniel Day Lewis. No matter how attractive a man is, it’s never a good idea for a woman to bear that much resemblance to one. Yet, Connelly has managed to do just that. They look like they’ve been separated at birth. And it’s not just because of the haircut and bushy brows. They have the same closed mouth smile, the same nose, and the same pronounced forehead. Even if you take away Lewis’ pic, Connelly just doesn’t look her best in this shot. We wonder what her entourage was thinking when they let her out of the house looking like this.
13. Tilda Swinton and Conan O’Brien
Tilda Swinton is known for her androgynous looks, but in this pic she looks more male than female. Specifically, she looks like a double for late night talk show host Conan O’Brien. It’s really uncanny. Both have ghost white skin and flaming red hair. Conan has been sporting this look as his trademark for years, including the pompadour wave in his hair. But we see no reason why Swinton would opt for this look. It can’t be getting her any admiration – or movie roles. What she needs is a tan, a smile and a little makeup to turn this trainwreck of a look around. Does she even have a stylist or a glam squad?
12. Clea DuVall and Josh Hartnett
Clea DuVall has always had a slightly masculine look about her, and it’s exacerbated when we see her side by side with Josh Harnett. Her strong cheekbones and jawline are really emphasized when he see her next to Harnett. Even their ears, nose and mouths are alike. They also sport the same side-swept hairstyle, and both have dark hair. DuVall’s only saving grace is that she has opted to keep her eyebrows groomed, unlike Harnett. Interestingly enough, these two co-starred in The Faculty together. It was probably hard for the cast and crew to tell them apart. Both stars have fallen in recent years. Hartnett had a bunch of box office bombs, so we know why he isn’t popular anymore. But DuVall just sort of faded away, and we can’t help but question if it was due to her lack of femininity.
11. Penny Marshall and Ozzy Osbourne
Funny girl Penny Marshall will forever be remembered as Laverne on the hit 70s sitcom Laverne and Shirley. She was never known for being a looker, but she had a nice figure, good skin, and a glowing smile. Let’s just say she hasn’t aged well. In fact, she’s aged so poorly that she somehow morphed into Ozzy Osbourne. Ouch! Osbourne has an excuse for looking so disheveled since he was a rocker and over-indulged. But Marshall’s transformation is a real head-scratcher. She has Osbourne’s bloated face, messy hair, and dull eyes. But at least Osbourne manages to crack a smile. Marshall is known for her lack of facial expression and overall schlumpy body language.
10. Alanis Morissette and Anthony Kedis
Alanis Morissette is here to remind us of the cross she bears – her startling resemblance to Anthony Kedis from the Red Hot Chili Peppers. Kedis gets a ton of women with his rocker-style good looks. But his looks don’t translate well on Morissette. She has a manly air about her with her long face and sallow complexion. The long, brown hair on Kedis gives him an air of sexiness that most musicians have, but Morissette can’t rock it – she just looks like a grungy girl in need of a makeover. However, we totally think Morissette can turn around her looks and become a hot woman. She just needs to stop copying Kedis. First, she needs a haircut with layers and some highlights to give her hair dimension. Next, she needs to spend some time in the sun. Even five minutes a day would go a long way. Finally, she needs to look into a little invention called makeup. Maybe if she’d taken these hints, then Ryan Reynolds would not have called off their engagement.
9. Jessica Lang and Caitlyn Jenner
When Caitlyn Jenner revealed herself on the cover of Vanity Fair, one comment trended above all others: she resembled Jessica Lang. The jury is still out on whether this was intentional on Jenner’s part or not. But either way, the similarity is eerie. Both of their eyes are the same shape and color. Their lips are both wide and are peachy pink. They even have wrinkles in the same places. Jenner and Lang are also both known for wearing their hair in a windswept way, and are always impeccably dressed. While we agree that they look like they could be cousins, we are going to emphasize the “look like” part. If you’ve ever seen a photo of Jenner without makeup, then you’ll know what we mean! Lang was a good sport about the whole comparison thing, though, as she wished Jenner well.
8. Maria Shriver and Willem Dafoe
In her younger years, Maria Shriver was a dead-ringer for her uncle, Ted Kennedy. She had the bloated Kennedy face and strong jawline. But now that she’s gotten older, thinner and more tired, she looks like a different man – Willem Dafoe. If you focus on Shriver’s face, and not her big hair, you will see what we mean. She has Dafoe’s sunken face as well as all his wrinkles. Shriver also shares his pointed nose and high forehead. These undesirable features work for Dafoe as he looks like a patrician man. But for Shriver, she just looks like she’s seen better days. We suspect that eligible bachelors agree, as she hasn’t been lucky in the dating pool since her divorce from Arnold Schwarzenegger.
7. Christopher Walken and Scarlett Johanssen
Everyone knows that Scarlett Johanssen is a beautiful woman. But even the loveliest of ladies can take a bad photo. Case in point: this match-up between her and a young Christopher Walken. It really makes us see her in a different light. She’s goes from hottie to nottie! When we look at this pic, we suddenly notice that her face looks boxy like a man’s, and that her short hair does her no favors. Even her facial expression is devoid of femininity. But we’re going to be fair, and say that she doesn’t totally look like a man. This is one case where the man (Walken) seems to resemble the woman (Johanssen). Walken looks effeminate in this shot, with blonde hair, dreamy eyes and full dewy lips.
6. Kathy Griffin and Carrot Top
Kathy Griffin is often compared to Andy Dick because of their lankiness and prominent noses. But she really resembles Carrot Top in these side-by-side shots. We think it’s only fitting since they’re both comedians. The curly red hair is the most obvious similarity, but Griffin looks like Carrot Top in other ways. To begin with, they’ve both had bad plastic surgery so that the skin by their eyes is pulled too tightly. The skin on their necks looks leathery in the photos, and it’s rather pink on their faces. And their lower faces are comparable too, since they have outsized chins and long lips. Poor Kathy. Poor Carrot Top. But at least they have great personalities!
5. Glenn Close and George Washington
We hope you love this comparison as much as we do! Glenn Close looks exactly like George Washington. If Brad Pitt is distantly related to Barack Obama, we figure that Close has got to be related to Washington. Close looks exactly like a man in this pic. She has short hair, a ruddy complexion and wrinkles galore. Her eyebrows are almost nonexistent, her lips are thin and tight, and her eyes are deep set. She is a far cry from her sultry role in Fatal Attraction. If she’s going to look this much like Washington, then we think she should take a page out of his book: put on a wig and heels! In this day and age, there’s really no reason why Close should look this unattractive. If she doesn’t want to go under the knife, then that’s her business. But some makeup and a blow-out can go a long way - as can a pretty dress and some jewelry. She wonders why she doesn’t get any work, but we all know the answer.
4. Mischa Barton and Elijah Wood
Mischa Barton looks so much like Elijah Wood in this pic that it’s criminal! Really, is she trying to commit identity theft? Their bone structure is very much the same as evidenced by the bridges of their noses and their jawlines. Their coloring is identical as each has porcelain skin, dark hair and light eyes. What is most striking, though, is the similarity of their mouths. Their lips are very thin, and both have an almost nonexistent upper lip. Their teeth are alike, too. They are small, with prominent front teeth and crooked incisors. For two people who have been in the industry for so long, we’re surprised they haven’t sprung for veneers. Barton is able to compensate for her shortcomings, as girls are, with luxe hair and smoky eye makeup. Wood, on the other hand, is SOL. Both of their careers are at a standstill, so we have the perfect way for them to garner some publicity – they should start dating and dressing alike. That would get a lot of press. They shouldn’t reproduce, though – they might turn out to be related.
3. Courteney Cox and Jared Leto
Courtney Cox looks a lot like Jared Leto in this comparison. She is kind of the perfect balance between male and female features. On the one hand she has Leto’s piercing blue eyes and midnight black hair framing her face. She even has the same diminutive lips and cheekbones as Leto. But Cox also has some uniquely womanly features like a dainty nose, arched brows and pink cheeks. She’s one girl on this list that gets away with looking dynamite while having her looks be compared to a man’s. We’re going to chock this up to two factors. The first is that Leto has delicate features that lend themselves well to the feminine form. The other is that Leto is able to transform his looks effortlessly, which is difficult for most men. This means that his looks are fluid, and are therefore more adaptable to varying forms.
2. Ke$ha and John Travolta
We are in love with this comparison of singer Ke$ha to actor John Travolta! We never knew these two looked so much alike until now. How did we miss it? We have two working theories. The first is that Ke$ha usually hides behind over-the-top hairstyles, makeup and costumes. This means that we haven’t been able to see her true features. The second is that she’s gained a considerable amount of weight, and it has changed her facial proportions. Whatever the reason, Ke$ha has Travolta’s heavy chin, exaggerated jaw, and beefy nose. Even their smiles are the same. When she wakes up now she probably feels less like P. Diddy and more like Danny Zuko.
1. Gwyneth Paltrow and Brad Pitt
Gwyneth Paltrow was recently named People magazine’s most beautiful woman. Frankly, we don’t see it – and this picture is why. She looks just like Brad Pitt! Pitt is an attractive man, and there’s no shame in looking like him – as long as you’re a man. If you’re a woman, it doesn’t quite work out. In fact, we assert that Paltrow looks more manly in this pic than Pitt does. Her jaw is boxier, her eyes are buggier and her forehead is wider. Pitt even has a more feminine way of styling his short hair than she does. He also has better brows, a healthier skin tone and a more shapely nose. He’s definitely the looker in this relationship. We wonder why it didn’t work out between them…
