With a Presidential election coming up in 2016, political discussion and controversy is only going to intensify for the next while. Obviously the gay marriage thing will be brought up, despite the Supreme Court decision. Abortion and other social issues that bring around the discussion of church and state will likely come up again; this stuff really never goes away.
The drug war may be an issue as well. It's failing and a genuinely stupid idea, but plenty of nominees from each party want to keep tossing people in prison for smoking dope. It costs an inexcusable amount of money and kills vastly more people than it saves, but these aren't the things about which many politicians truly care.
Obviously, one of the biggest issues in every election is whether Americans will be able to get their guns. Many countries have enacted very strict gun laws, and why wouldn't governments do such a thing? Citizens are easier to abuse when they're unarmed, everyone knows that. Look at Canada, in our frozen, near arctic nightmare, some people think that only government agents should have guns. This is an absurdly stupid idea, but they'll only figure that out when some government worker is literally stepping on their throat.
Back to the United States however, Americans are among the last people on Earth with the brains to realize that guns are important. In short, one of the most fundamental reasons people need guns is to protect themselves from government itself; the most inherently corrupt institution humanity has ever concocted. In spite of this, many Americans are giving up their guns. It's frightening but not everyone understands that guns are just tools, and that while citizens may give up their guns, a criminal will not, and it takes cops a few minutes minimum to show up. Police are only reactive, never proactive, and the only true way for someone to protect themselves and their family is with a weapon of their own. While many celebrities have led the charge against firearms, some remain at the forefront of the fight to keep responsible gun ownership a part of American life. Here are fifteen of them.
15. Whoopie Goldberg
One of those all-encompassingly talented individuals, Whoopi Goldberg can do it all. She can act, sing, and certainly make people laugh, a real treasure. While she is well known for having many liberal views, she is a member of the NRA. Though she is noted as having voiced her support for assault weapon bans, she has also expressed her belief many times that rifles, shotguns and pistols are suitable for civilian use and ownership.
14. James Earl Jones
The man behind one of the most distinct voices show business has ever seen also has a brain in his head. James Earl Jones is of course most famous for doing the voice work for Darth Vader in the original Star Wars movies. He is a member of the National Rifle Association (henceforth referred to as the NRA), and while the source is questioned by some skeptics, many attribute the following quote to him: "The world is filled with violence. Because criminals carry guns, we decent law-abiding citizens should also have guns. Otherwise, they will win and the decent people will lose."
13. Chuck Norris
The Walker: Texas Ranger star is also an author, and pro gun activist who has written about the subject. He is a well-known Republican party supporter and has often stood up for the right to bear arms. Chuck Norris released an ad several years ago, urging gun owners to vote if they wanted to keep their guns. He has suggested time and time again that the U.S. government's end goal is total control over all citizens, a fate he believes can be prevented by vigilant gun ownership.
12. Alton Brown
One of the most famous celebrity chefs in the United States is Alton Brown, who, in addition to hosting cooking shows is also and author and pro gun activist. Some have suggested that he loves his firearms as much as he loves preparing food in the kitchen. He's knowledgeable about guns and was quoted as saying that his house is protected by Mossberg, and that the Mossberg is protected by H&K. Mossberg is in reference to Mossberg and Sons; primarily a shotgun and rifle manufacturer, and H&K is Heckler and Koch, a German small arms manufacturer, famous for the MP5 submachine gun, G36 assault rifle and PSG1 sniper rifle.
11. Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie
One of the most famous celebrity couples in show business, Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie are both pro gun firearm owners. Brad Pitt has said that he believes that the right to own and operate a gun is part of America and that he considers his house safer when he is armed. Angelina Jolie has made similar comments and has also said that she is more than capable of using a gun if there was an intruder in her house (after all, she did play Lara Croft).
10. James Hetfield
The lead singer and one of two guitarists for legendary band Metallica, James Hetfield is one of the most well known rock musicians on the planet. He's also a critic of gun control and has taken plenty of fire for his beliefs. He believes in the second amendment, and is an avid hunter. Last summer, activists with more time on their hands than brain power tried to have Metallica removed from the Glastonbury Music Festival. Their petition failed and Hetfield and the other band members put on a great show. They always do, in fact.
9. Tom Selleck
Tom Selleck earned a majority of his fame acting as Thomas Magnum in Magnum PI back in the 1980s, and has been a respected actor in numerous projects since. A noted pro gun celebrity, he is also educated and a well-spoken advocate for the second amendment. While he has been vocal in his defense of gun owners' rights throughout his career, possibly his best moment was his thorough defense against bloated mutant Rosie O'Donnell (below). "Bloated mutant" is as kind as I can be, by the way.
Selleck is an intelligent man and defends guns well, and believes, like an informed person does, in civil liberties.
8. Jennifer Lawrence
As if there weren't enough reasons to love Jennifer Lawrence (don't disrespect her by calling her J-Law, grow up), she isn't an anti-gunner. The star of The Hunger Games movies has stated that along with a great house, two of her other future purchases after another movie or two will include a big dog and a shotgun. Spoken like true wife material (many would agree); congrats to whatever lucky gent rings this gem.
7. Adam Baldwin
Known as the Baldwin who is not related to the other Baldwins, Adam is probably best known for his roles in Firefly, Serenity, Chuck and of course Full Metal Jacket. He played a sociopathic M-60 machine gunner with an itchy trigger finger and a foul attitude in Stanley Kubrick's Vietnam War masterpiece. Thankfully the man behind the character is much more level headed. He still likes guns though.
He has consistently said that in trained, responsible hands, guns are useful tools and has taken plenty of bad press for his sensible beliefs.
6. Bruce Willis
Probably one of the most respected actors of the past several decades, Bruce Willis has starred in dozens of movies from horrors, such as The Sixth Sense to action films like the Die Hard series. He wields a gun in many of his movies and supports the second amendment in real life. He has advised Americans that they should be wary of politicians because he believes they are forever seeking greater control and guns are among the first freedoms the government needs in order to further exact authority. Kind of hard to argue against that.
5. Ice-T
A thirty year veteran of both rap and acting, Ice-T is one of those lasting talents who never fails to entertain. While his lyrics and his characters may be mostly of the tough guy variety, he's a sharp man and knows his stuff when it comes to issues of liberty and firearms.
He's been noted for his violent (and often firearm related) lyrics and content, especially the song "Cop Killer", produced back in the early 90's, about a young criminal who kills racist cops. With regard to the second amendment however, he believes that the importance of guns stems from their ability to help an individual protect him/herself from tyranny and government oppression. He's not wrong by any means.
4. Miranda Lambert
Country music Goddess Miranda Lambert is a pro gun celebrity and claims to carry a gun often when in public. She has received death threats throughout her singing career, but also believes that owning and practicing with guns are important parts of any citizen's plan for protection. Though she hates politics and never wants to end up like the Dixie Chicks over a political statement, she has told interviewers that she is a hunter and believes that guns are a right for Americans and essential for protection.
3. Ted Nugent
While most rock musicians voice their opinions on political issues at some time or another, icon Ted Nugent has devoted his life to political causes in the past few years. He is an anti-drug activist, has no patience for animal rights nutjobs, and most notably, is pro gun and in favor of gun ownership for purposes of hunting and personal protection. he is one of the most quotable of gun advocates. He said years ago that "where you have the most armed citizens in America, you have the lowest violent crime rate. Where you have the worst gun control, you have the highest crime rate." He has also said that responsible gun ownership does not cause problems, but bad parenting and misbehaved kids are to blame when a gun is used in a crime.
2. Clint Eastwood
One of America's all-time favorite tough guys once said that he has a very strict gun control policy "If there is a gun around, I want to be controlling it". Some have argued that Clint Eastwood is not pro gun. Admittedly, he has been quoted as being in favor of registering guns and has stated that assault weapons should not be owned by civilians, but when all is said and done, he believes that responsible ownership of certain types of firearms, for protection and hunting is a right for Americans and believes that the country should remain that way.

From Swingers to Old School and Dodgeball, actor Vince Vaughn has played many hilarious characters. Recently however, nobody in Hollywood was laughing when he detailed his views on firearms. Recently in an interview with GQ he stated: "I support people having a gun in public full stop, not just in your home. We don't have the right to bear arms because of burglars; we have the right to bear arms to resist the supreme power of a corrupt and abusive government. It's not about duck hunting; it's about the ability of the individual. It's the same reason we have freedom of speech. It's well known that the greatest defense against an intruder is the sound of a gun hammer being pulled back. All these gun shootings that have gone down in America since 1950, only one or maybe two have happened in non-gun-free zones. Take mass shootings. They've only happened in places that don't allow guns. These people are sick in the head and are going to kill innocent people. They are looking to slaughter defenseless human beings. They do not want confrontation. In all of our schools it is illegal to have guns on campus, so again and again these guys go and shoot up these f***ing schools because they know there are no guns there. They are monsters killing six-year-olds."
There you have it, Vince Vaughn beautifully lays out why gun control is a joke and why responsible gun ownership is a fundamental right and obligation of freedom loving citizens.
