After a 50 year television career, Barbara Walters is saying goodbye to her journalism career. Walters, who is 84, will leave The View this Thursday May 16, 2014. A journalist, media personality, and writer, Walters has been a familiar face to many. Whether it’s her trademark probing-yet-casual interviewing style or for being named one of the “Best Dressed Stars of All-Time” by People Magazine in 2000, Walters will forever be a respected TV personality. When commenting about retirement Walters states, “I want to leave while people are saying, ‘Why is she leaving?’ instead of ‘Why doesn’t she leave?”

15-Career
Barbara Walters didn’t set out to become a journalist. While attending Sarah Lawrence College to pursue a degree in English, she considered becoming an actress, but she was too scared of rejection. She then accepted a writing job on the Today Show, and her journalism career took off.
