Some celebrities are known for buying luxury properties, only to sell them for a profit a short time later (we’re looking at you, Ellen DeGeneres). But for others, it’s a rare occurrence to see them put a property on the market.

Helen Mirren has owned her Los Angeles mansion for decades, but it appears the actress is ready to part ways after listing the property for a cool $16.9 million recently.

The Anna star bought the home with her husband, director Taylor Hackford, in the ‘80s. It features over 11,000 square feet of living space, including 5 bedrooms. The property also comes with a detached guest house featuring 3 bedrooms.

The mansion’s other amenities include a large swimming pool, wood-paneled library, outdoor swimming pool, and a 5-car garage.

It also offers maximum privacy. Not only is there a winding driveway leading to the main residence, but the property is enclosed behind two gates. The property that backs the mansion is a vacant parkland, which has been guaranteed that it won’t become developed.

The high price tag is also explained by the property’s rich history. It’s been standing for over a decade, after being built in 1911.

In fact, the home has only been sold four times throughout the years, all of whom were a part of the entertainment industry.

One of its previous owners was Dustin Darnum, known for starring in a slew of silent era Western films. He later sold the mansion to Mark Hellinger, a writer-producer, before it changed hands to Gail Patrick, an actress who also became the first female executive producer.

Taylor and Helen have gushed about the property, and it’s unclear why they’re finally selling it. “We always felt very fortunate about the pedigree of this house and the fact that all the people who lived there were all working artists in Hollywood,” Taylor said in 2021.

The L.A. property isn’t the only home Helen and Taylor have owned. In fact, the pair were living full-time in their Lake Tahoe, Nevada property following the onset of the COVID pandemic.

Of the experience, Helen has said, “It’s given me the opportunity to be with my husband in a sort of normal everyday way, which has been fantastic. It is actually the first time in all of our 30 years together that we’ve sat down at the table each night and had dinner together.”

She added, “Normally we’re getting on planes, going here, there. So, it’s been fabulous just to be a normal person.”
