Washington Capitals superstar Alexander Ovechkin will be on the cover of an EA Sports NHL video game for the second time.
On Monday morning, EA Sports announced that Ovechkin will be featured on the cover of NHL 21, which is slated for a release on Oct. 21.
Ovechkin was also the cover athlete for NHL 07, coming off a phenomenal rookie season that saw him pot 52 goals and 106 points, en route to Calder Trophy honors. He was also the cover for NHL 2K10, developed by 2K Sports.
Chicago Blackhawks captain Jonathan Toews is the only other player to be featured on two different NHL EA Sports video game covers. He was on the cover for NHL 11 (following Chicago's 2009-10 Stanley Cup championship season) and NHL 16 (after guiding Chicago to a third Stanley Cup in five years).
Toronto Maple Leafs centre Auston Matthews was the cover for NHL 20. New Jersey Devils defenceman P.K. Subban (then with the Nashville Predators), was the cover for NHL 19. He was the first defenceman to appear on the cover for the video game franchise since Dion Phaneuf for NHL 09.

Ovechkin's Capitals were eliminated by the New York Islanders in the first round of the postseason. Head coach Todd Reirden was fired following the team's Game 5 loss last Thursday.
For his career, the future Hall of Famer has 706 goals and 1,278 points in 1,152 games. A 12-time All-Star, Ovechkin has won the Maurice 'Rocket Richard' Trophy -awarded annually to the league's leading goal scorer - nine times. He has also capture three Hart Trophies - awarded to the league's most valuable player.
After nearly a full decade of playoff heartbreak, Ovechkin and the Capitals finally won the Stanley Cup championship in 2018 - defeating the expansion Vegas Golden Knights in five games. Ovechkin was awarded the Conn Smythe, having recorded three goals and two assists in the series.
