The Oscar Winning director is set to return to the big screen with the film adaptation based on the life and career of legendary martial artist Bruce Lee. The film titled Bruce Lee has the go signal of Bruce Lee’s family and was even a part of the production team as Bruce Lee’s daughter is one of the film’s producers. It was reported that Taiwanese-American director Ang Lee has been secretly working on the film for years now and soon, the audience will get to see the film on the big screen.

Ang Lee has tapped his son, Mason Lee, to portray the role of Bruce. Mason was honored to do take on the project as he believed that more people should get to know Bruce Lee. The Early Life Of The Low-key Actor

Taiwanese-American actor Mason Lee was born in May 30, 1990 to parents of three-time Academy Award-winning director Ang Lee and microbiology researcher Jane Lin. Although he has been active in the entertainment industry since 1993, there weren’t enough information about Mason Lee while he was growing up. Other than he’s a graduate from the New York University, not much information about his personal life was known to the public.

Although very little information about the son of the prominent director is available, the low-key actor revealed to the public that he secretly married his girlfriend Silver Chiu. The secret celebrity marriage would not be known to the public if Mason did not announced it on his platform. He announced the happy news of his marriage through his Instagram account on November 6. Despite revealing his wife’s face through a series of their pictures together, not much information about her and their relationship was known to the public.

Mason Lee’s Films And Career

The actor starred in numerous films both in Taiwan and Hollywood. Mason Lee first appeared on the big screen as a baby on the film starring Winston Chao titled The Wedding Banquet in 1993. After the said appearance, he did not appear on screen again until 2001 when he joined the cast of Chosen as one of the passengers. After his appearance on the 2001 film, he went on to continue and finish his studies before appearing onscreen again.

A decade after his last appearance, he decided to appear on the big screen once again. His comeback to the screen was in a big-time project starring Bradley Cooper titled The Hangover II. He played the role of Teddy in the 2011 film. He then starred on Lucy starring Scarlett Johansson in 2014 and then joined the cast of his father’s Billy Lynn’s Long Halftime Walk where got to work with opposite Joe Alwyn and The Twilight Saga star Kristen Stewart.

Although he’s not really known in Hollywood, he’s pretty popular in Taiwan as he starred in rom-com films such as Dream Flight in 2014, The End of Love and Where the Wind Settles in 2015. After that, he has been regularly doing films across Asia including films in China, Taiwan and Hong Kong. The actor has appeared in quite varied genres including comedy, drama and action.

Bringing Bruce Lee’s Story To The Big Screen

The award winning director of Brokeback Mountain, Life of Pi and Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon has decided to pick his son, Mason Lee, to play the role of Bruce Lee in the forthcoming biopic of the famous kung fu star. The director has already talked with four different writers to find the best script for the film.

Ever since the tragic death of the martial artist and founder of Jeet Kune Do in 1973, tons of portrayals and stories about him appeared on-screen. The groundbreaking life and career of the legendary martial artist has been previously told in The Legend of Bruce Lee series in 2008 that has about 50 episodes which gathered over 400 million Chinese viewers.

Quentin Tarantino also featured the life of Bruce Lee on his comedy film Once Upon a Time in Hollywood in 2019. Bruce Lee’s daughter was not really pleased on Tarantino’s film and claimed that she was really uncomfortable sitting in a movie theatre while people laugh at his father. This time, Ang Lee would be the one to do a film about Bruce Lee. The version of Ang Lee would be a great addition to the already piling up collection of films about Bruce Lee

Some people might think that the only reason Mason Lee got the part was because his father was the director. To prove that he’s worthy of the iconic role, the actor has worked earnestly to play Bruce Lee’s part. The 32 year-old actor is very keen on perfectly portraying the role, he has been dedicating the last three years of his life training for the part in Asia.

The actor set to play Bruce Lee trained in Asia even during the Covid-19 lockdown. Mason wanted to flawlessly portray the part since his father has had a long-time passion about the Bruce Lee project.
