Taylor Swift is having one of the biggest moneymaking years in music history and Swift can now add the title of billionaire to her list of 2023 achievements. Bloomberg News announced on Friday that Taylor Swift's net worth currently sits at an estimated $1.1 billion.
By all accounts the Eras Tour has been a success, generating $4.3 billion in revenue for the U.S. economy while Yahoo Sports reports that Swift has earned an estimated $225 million from ticket sales and merchandise. Shockingly, the tour isn't even halfway over, as Deadline points out, ticket sales topped $700 million for the tours 53 U.S. stops and there are still 89 more shows left for the tours second leg.
Taylor Swift has added at least an additional $50 million to her annual pay thanks to the concert movie Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour which has grossed $132 million domestically and $46.8 million globally. According to Box Office Mojo, the total gross of the film before the upcoming weekend is already $178,797,540. Swift worked out an agreement with AMC that cut out film distributors and provided the singer with a cut of the total box office. Swift is estimated to have already earned more than $60 million for her share of box office sales based on the agreed 55% rev share that AMC was more than likely happy to hand over to the singer. Deadline also notes that that movie's $92.8 million domestic opening is now the second-biggest for any October movie release in history.
Forbes has also revealed that Taylor Swift's net worth has increased by $360 million since June 2023 when she ranked number 34 on the list of America's richest self-made women.
Taylor Swift's Road To Billionaire Status
In examining Swift's net worth, Bloomberg points out that she has earned more than $400 million in earnings from her combined music catalog which includes past tracks and new music that Swift has released on a shockingly regular basis. On top of physical and digital sales, Swift has earned $120 million in streaming revenues and $80 million in royalties from music sales. Bloomberg also notes that Swift owns five homes with a value of $110 million.
What makes Taylor Swift's billionaire status equally impressive is that she did it mostly on music and performance revenue alone, which Town & Country Magazine points out is a rarity among performers.
Taylor Swift's Endorsement Deals Have Earned Her Millions
With Swift's popularity it's no surprise that she has landed some very impressive endorsement deals along the way, Swift has used her name and influence to peddle such products as the Keds Collection, Diet Coke, Capital One, AT&T, Stella McCartney, Elizabeth Arden perfumes, American Express, Walmart, and Apple, among others.
Swift's Concerts Have Always Been Big Moneymakers
This isn't the first time Taylor Swift has earned huge ticket sales from her concerts. When the singer-songwriter set off on her 1989 Tour in 2015 she brought in revenues that surpassed $250 million. It was an impressive sum at the time. Following Taylor Swift's Reputation Stadium Tour in 2018 it was revealed that she brought in more than $315 million on 2.6 million ticket sales.
And it's not just ticket sales at her concerts that have made Taylor Swift rich. Fans are willing to pony up $80 or more for general merchandise. Sales of Taylor Swift t-shirts, hoodies, hats, and other items have earned her an estimated $87 million.
Swift's Rerecordings Made $52 Million In 2021 Alone
In one of the most brilliant career moves in modern music history, Taylor Swift has been rerecording her hit songs following the sale of her music catalog by former manager Scooter Braun. Swift now owns the masters for her rerecorded music and in 2021 she earned 52 million for her new, um, old, tracks. Since that time Swift has continued to rerelease her old music. On October 27, 2023, the rerecorded tracks for her 1989 album were released.
Exactly how popular are Swift's rerecorded albums? Insider notes that her new version of "Red" was one of the year's top-selling albums, and "Fearless (Taylor's Version)" managed to debut at number one on Billboard charts.
At the rate Taylor Swift is going and if her popularity remains on its current trajectory, she may very well pass the $2 billion mark in the next three to four years.
Welcome to the three comma club Taylor Swift.
