Boston's original Bozo the Clown has died at the age of 89.
TMZ was first to break the news the legendary clown, who was a household name back in the 60’s, 70’s, and 80’s has passed away. Frank Avruch died earlier this week in Boston. His family shared he had been battling heart disease for a very long time before his passing.
“While it’s hard to say goodbye, we celebrate the legacy of joy and laughter he brought to millions of children around the world as Bozo the Clown on TV and as a UNICEF Ambassador and later as host of Channel 5’s Great Entertainment and Boston’s Man About Town. Our dad loved the children of all ages who remembered being on his show and was always grateful for their kind words. We will miss him greatly,” read the statement from his family released to the press.

Avruch not only created the beloved Bozo the Clown character in Boston but also was instrumental in many different ways on the hit TV show. He introduced the world to the famous clown back in 1959 and played him on television until 1970. Thanks to Avruch young kids all over got to know the lovable clown with the red-orange wig, oversized red shoes, and pajamas with the frilly collar. His show Bozo the Clown was the first ever show featuring a clown as one of the main characters to be nationally syndicated.
Along with playing the beloved clown, Avruch was also known for being a contributor to WCVB-TV in Boston. He hosted hosting Man About Town and The Great Entertainment. Many of his co-workers took to social media after news of his passing spread to express their love of the amazing man who gave the entertainment world so much.
Frank Avruch who helped introduce the red-haired clown to the people of Boston passed away earlier this week. His wife Betty, his two sons and his grandchildren survive him. However, his memory will live on in the hearts of all the people who watched him as Bozo the Clown.
