Charlie Ayers began his career as a professional chef when he worked for Hilton Hotels'at their Meadowlands and Parsippany locations in New Jersey. Then, when he relocated to California, he had a chance to prepare meals backstage at music festivals and eventually hired by some of the bands in the country such as the Grateful Dead.
But his life changed when he was chosen in a cook-off in November 1999, where the forty employees of Google were judges for the said event. He became the executive chef for the search engine, and stayed for 6 years. He was also known as Google employee #56. While he's still in the company, he has 40,000 shares in stock.
With his stock options in the said company, he didn't sell his fair share in the company. When he left Google in 2005, he released his first cookbook, "Food 2.0: Secrets From The Chef Who Fed Google" in 2008, and a year after, Ayers established his own restaurant, Calafia Cafe and Market A Go Go located in Palo Alto, California.
