Daniel Sedin began playing hockey, along with his twin brother, Henrik at the age of eight. He started his professional career during the 1997-1998 season with the Swedish Elite League's Modo Hockey.
He made it to the 1999 NHL Entry Draft when he was chosen by the Vancouver Canucks. Sedin was named alternate captain for the team in 2010. He received the Art Ross Trophy and Ted Lindsay Award.
Eventually, he was nominated for the Hart Memorial Trophy as the league's most valuable player. Sedin also participated in international competition for Sweden.
