Dany Heatley started off his hockey career with the Alberta Midget Hockey League when he played for the Calgary Buffaloes. He led the team which earned bronze medal during the 1998 Air Canada Cup.
During the 1998-1999 season with the Alberta Junior Hockey League, he joined the Calgary Canucks to maintain his eligibility for the NCAA. Eventually, Heatley joined the University of Wisconsin Badgers hockey team. He was named to the Western Collegiate Hockey Association's First All-Star team and NCAA West Second All-American Team.
The Atlanta Thrashers selected Heatley during the 2000 NHL Entry Draft. He won the Caulder Memorial Trophy as Rookie of the Year. During the middle of his stint with the Thrashers, he was involved in a car accident wherein his teammate, Dan Snyder died six days after the said incident.
Due to the NHL lockout in 2004-2005 season, he was traded off to the Ottawa Senators. Other teams that he appeared to play with invlu\\ San Jose Sharks, Minnesota Wild, and Anaheim Ducks. On December 11, 2014, Heathley was assigned to the Ducks' AHL affiliate, Norfolk Admirals. He currently placed on waivers.
