Drake is on a mission to give away his $200 million fortune—or so it seems—after he and Jack Harlow recently surprised a fan in Turks and Caicos with $20,000. Now Drizzy has decided to continue his streak of generosity by blessing another fan. This time, the rapper surprised a high-school basketball player and his mother with $100,000 in cold hard cash.
The God’s Plan rapper teamed up with LeBron James at Toronto’s Harbor 60 restaurant, which is where he shot his 2011 Headlines video, to spread some love.
“Lots of memorable nights in this room in my life, for sure,” he said in a video posted to Instagram. “Speaking of memorable nights, I had an incredible night last night playing roulette on Stake.”
The video cuts to the night before when the Champagne Papi won big on the cryptocurrency betting platform. Drake recently entered a partnership with Stake, and it looks like some of his generosity might be a marketing ploy for the company.
“So yeah, as you can see, I was clearly excited,” he continued. “Anytime I get blessed like that, I always think it’s good karma that needs to be transferred. So, I play for fun, and I play in hopes that I can spread love always. So tonight, I’m doing a dinner with my brother, he’s the biggest athlete in the world, his name is LeBron James.”
Drizzy then explains that he and James have invited a student-athlete named Michael, who plays basketball for the Royal Crown Academic School, and his mother, who Drake describes as “one of the most hard-working women period.”
The pair of superstars had a big surprise planned. Drake said, “We’re gonna bless them tonight, so I’m looking forward to seeing their reaction.”
The video cuts to the meeting, where the rapper tells Michael he respects his “hard work” before turning to his mother. he explains that he respected her hard work even more. Drake then pulls out a stack of cash—as he does—and hands it to her.
“Hopefully it makes this journey a little easier,” he tells her.
But Drake isn't finished yet. The Certified Lover Boy turns to Michael’s coach, presenting him with a new pair of kicks, but before he hands the shoebox over—he pulls out one last bundle of cash and hands it to the coach.
