Television personality Ellen DeGeneres has listed her Montecito, California home in hopes of making a small profit, despite owning the property for less than half a year.
According to PEOPLE Magazine, DeGeneres and her wife, actress Portia de Rossi, have listed the home for $13.9 million after originally buying it in an off-market deal last September for $12 million. Known for flipping houses, the couple reportedly did minor renovations to the home before listing it.
The home, which was originally completed in 2018, sits on 3,980 square feet of property and features 3 bedrooms and 4 bathrooms. The listing – put up by Riskin Partners Group – notes that the home features a large studio, which could be easily transformed into a home gym, office, or guest house.
The house’s other features include retractable glass walls, two separate bedroom wings, a quartz bathroom, state-of-the-art appliances, and an open floor plan.
It's not just the home itself that has potential buyers swooning, as the property comes with an impressive outdoor space, including 0.72 acres of lush gardens as well as a fountain.
DeGeneres and de Rossi made headlines last October when they sold their $55 million mansion (also located in Montecito, California) only to buy two new properties in the area. At the time, we reported this was the second largest real estate deal to go through in Santa Barbara.
The couple had only owned the home for around a year – having purchased it in 2020 for $49 million from radio host Dennis Miller. The property included 4.3 acres and three separate lots. Other features included a detached garage, pool house, guest house, and a barn designed by Tom Kundig.
Following the sale of the property, DeGeneres and de Rossi picked up two other homes, including the Rancho San Leandro home, which they previously owned from 2017 to 2018. They spent $14.3 million to buy the home back.
They also bought the home across the street for $12 million, reportedly in hopes of combining the two properties to double the acreage. However, this appears to be the same home they couple most recently sold for a profit.
DeGeneres has been open about her love of flipping homes. In 2011, the talk show host said that one of the first things she did when making a significant sum of money was “buy a house,” which spurred her love of renovating.
Architectural Digest estimates that DeGeneres has flipped at least 20 properties since 2003. Given DeGeneres’ history, it’s likely only a matter of time before she invests in another property with the intention of renovating and selling for a profit.
