Willem Dafoe has already portrayed one of the most iconic Marvel Comics villains in a live action film, but what if he suited up as Batman's archenemy?
Dafoe played Norman Osborn/Green Goblin in Spider-Man (2002) , which starred Tobey Maguire as the superhero. He briefly appeared in the ensuing sequels, Spider-Man 2 (2004) and Spider-Man 3 (2007).
The 64-year-old actor received critical acclaim for his performance as Osborn/Green Goblin. Consider that, along with his illustrious Hollywood career, and it's safe to assume that Dafoe would also make a great Joker.
It's never going to happen, but one can at least imagine what Dafoe would look like if he suited up as the Clown Prince of Crime.
Digital Jaxson Derr put together a remarkable piece that shows what Dafoe could look like as the Joker. It closely resembles the versions played by Jack Nicholson for Tim Burton's Batman (1989) and Cameron Monaghan in the Gotham televisions series.

Even though it's obviously unlikely that Dafoe will be cast as Joker, it's fun to envision how he'd portray the role.
For what it's worth, Matt Reeves didn't cast a Joker for his upcoming 2021 blockbuster, The Batman, which stars Robert Pattinson as the Caped Crusader. It's certainly possible that he'll introduce the character in a sequel, however.
Joaquin Phoenix portrayed the Clown Prince of Crime in Todd Phillips' Joker, and some fans wondered if his character would appear in The Batman. However, Pattinson was quick to shoot that rumor down.
Aside from Nicholson and Phoenix, Cesar Romero (Batman, 1966), Heath Ledger (The Dark Knight, 2008) and Jared Leto (Suicide Squad, 2016) have also portrayed Joker in a live action film. Mark Hamill from Star Wars has lent his iconic Joker voice for several animated Batman films and video games.
The primary villains in The Batman consist of Riddler/Edward Nashton (Paul Dano), Penguin/Oswald Cobblepot (Colin Farrell), Catwoman/Selina Kyle (Zoë Kravitz) and Carmine Falcone (John Turturro).
