It is a chain of American hypermarket which is based in Grand Rapids, Michigan. Hank graduated from the University of Michigan in 1973 with a degree in literature. He became passionate in doing historical research and in writing years after his graduation. He has written a biography of Arthur Venderberg, the US Senator who represented Michigan during World War II. He also wrote a biography of his grandfather and namesake, Hendrik Sr. The book is entitled Thrifty Years: The Life of Hendrik Meijer which was published in 1984 by Eerdmans Publishing.
