Tom Schwartz and Katie Maloney’s relationship played out for ten years on Vanderpump Rules.

In season one, Katie and Tom were in the early stages of a secure and loving relationship. As time went on in front of the Bravo cameras, cracks in their relationship began to spread, and finally unravel.

The couple endured a few infidelities and battled them, staying together and starting their own respective businesses.

But as the collective net worth of the Vanderpump Rules cast continued to grow, Katie and Tom’s relationship did not, leading to the demise of their marriage and the sale of their California home.

Boss, mentor, and friend Lisa Vanderpump has remained a stable figure in the former couple’s lives, but she couldn't save their relationship.

Updated, February 2024: In January, the eleventh season of Vanderpump Rules began airing on Bravo; details about Katie and Tom's strained relationship were part of both the new episodes, and present amid discussion of the latest developments among the members of its cast.

On January 30th, BravoTV.com published a Vanderpump Rules (VPR) recap, focusing on the former couple's current dynamic – describing it as tense and fraught.

Bravo teased a coming "love triangle" between Katie, Tom, and singer Tori Keeth, and reported:

"On the Season 11 premiere of the series, which aired on January 30, Katie provided an update on where things currently stand with her and Tom, including their co-parenting relationship with their two dogs, Butter and Gordo.

"During the episode, Katie briefly stopped by Tom’s apartment to pick up their shared furry pals. Though Katie had no intentions of staying long, Schwartz proposed that she 'chill for a sec' to catch up.

"Right after [that segment], in a confessional, Katie opened up about how her friendship with Tom is basically non-existent. 'After 12 years together, five of which we were married, I’m happy to say that Schwartz is not my problem anymore,' she said. 'Besides from the dogs, Tom doesn’t get any access to my life.'"

Decider.com addressed what occurred on a January 30th episode of Watch What Happens Live, in particular, a "hot take" from fellow VPR personality Lala Kent. On Watch What Happens Live, Lala responded to a question about whether the erstwhile couple "would ever be friends again," stating:

"They [Katie and Tom] have a really funky dynamic, and I’m here for it. She, like, emotionally abuses him [and] he loves it. It works!"

Earlier in January, People.com published a "relationship timeline" so VPR viewers could keep track.

And in March 2023, Bravo shared a video about the "rise and fall" of the couple to YouTube:

In 2019, the former couple bought a beautiful home in Valley Village, California, not far from their fellow Vanderpump Rules cast members Jax Taylor and Tom Sandoval.

In fact, Maloney and Schwartz's home was right down the street from their castmates. Refinery 29 states that Maloney and Schwartz only lived a mile away from Sandoval and Ariana Madix.

Owning a home of its size and its hefty price tag was no longer feasible for the pair and, according to OK!, it went up for sale just three years after the former couple purchased it.

Their Two-Story Home Had Curb Appeal

TMZ reported that Maloney and Schwartz put their home on the market for $2.7 million in 2022.

According to publicly available data on Zillow, the house was built in 2016, on .14 acres of land, and it had navy shutters with a white coat of paint. At 3,600 square feet, the two-story Cape Cod had plenty of space for them and their two dogs, Butters and Gordo.

The farmhouse-style house was spotted frequently on Vanderpump Rules, and showed that although they always had gatherings, they also had plenty of privacy thanks to the large trees and greenery that surrounded their area.

In a suburban neighborhood with plenty of green space, this California home isn't the most expensive celebrity home – but it's gorgeous in its own right.

During some of the final days of living in their once-loved home, Maloney shared a picture of herself sitting in her spacious home on Instagram, and detailing how hard it was to sell the home they created as a couple.

Selling their home was also the final nail in the coffin of their marriage and relationship.

"Closing this chapter on my life feels like attending my own funeral," Maloney wrote.

However, the end of their relationship and saying goodbye to their home meant a new chapter of happy endings for the pair.

A Chic, Cozy Interior, & Eventful Exterior

As stunning as the exterior of their Cape Cod-styled home was, the interior was just as warm and welcoming.

Viewers saw Maloney and Schwartz's styles mesh to create a modern and cozy vibe. A listing on Zillow boasted that the house had light-colored hardwood floors, with plenty of windows for natural light.

High ceilings and beams made the home open and airy for guests and family. And while it was just Katie and Tom who lived there, the house had four bedrooms and five bathrooms sprinkled throughout.

Even cooler was that the Los Angeles home had three lavish fireplaces, which made the home feel like an oasis.

Being in California, as important as the inside of the home was, the outside was where most of the cast were shown filming. Their kitchen flowed into the living room, which had an adjustable wall for guests to move easily from the inside to the outside and into the former couple's backyard.

With a modern pergola and outdoor fireplace, guests could sit by the fire or go for a dip in the sauna that's attached to a relaxing pool.

The home was made for entertaining, with its modern amenities, state-of-the-art appliances, and open floor plan.

What They Sold It For

Via Bravo TV

According to Radar, a few weeks after Schwartz and Maloney put their Cape Cod on the market, they lowered the price by $154,000.

As they reduced the sale price by more than six figures, fans of Vanderpump Rules realized how quickly the couple hoped to get out of their former dream home.

By the summer of 2022, the pair got their wish. Someone swooped in and bought their multi-million dollar private home for $2.45 million; this was a $670,000 profit for the reality TV stars after buying the home in 2019 for $1.9 million, according to Reality Blurb.

All the while, Katie and Tom helped one another find new apartments, which were later shown on season ten of the reality show. Bravo showed off Katie Maloney’s apartment in the same area as her former home, which she described as "deco feminine chic" on Twitter.

And though Katie enjoys living alone and decorating the apartment with her personal preferences, Tom said on Katie’s You’re Gonna Love Me podcast (via Bravo) that it took some time for him to enjoy apartment living.

He continued saying: "It’s just, living in a small, little apartment that you have to pay $3,500 a month for? It’s hard not to be salty. You know what I mean? It’s smaller than my apartment in college."

Since the Bravo celebrities couldn't afford their home on their own, are now divorced, and live in separate apartments, they can truly move on and start new eras, which was delicately handled in season ten of Vanderpump Rules.

However, this gorgeous Valley Village home will have a spot in fans' hearts since it was a huge part of the former couple's storyline – and based on Bravo's "love triangle" season eleven teaser, fans haven't seen the last of the exes on screen.
