Professional golfer John Daly has an estimated net worth of $2 million. He earned over $10 million through his career in the PGA Tour and his wins in the British Open, but gambling debts have diminished his fortune significantly.

John Patrick Daly was born on April 28, 1966, in Carmichael, California. His parents were Jim - a construction worker for industrial plants - and Lou Daly, a homemaker. The family moved frequently throughout his younger days, and he began playing golf at the age of four when the family moved to Dardanelle, Arkansas. At the age of ten, the Dalys moved to Locust Grove, Orange County, Virginia and John played golf at the Lake of the Woods Golf Course, where he won the spring club championship at the age of 13, beating all the other male competitors.

John Daly attended Helias High School in Jefferson City, Missouri, and was a junior golf club member at the Jefferson City Country Club. As a letterman in both football and golf at Helias, he led them to a 10-0 record in 1983. That same year, John was in the Missouri state team high school champion in golf. He attended the University of Arkansas from 1984 to 1987 on a golf scholarship but left college before he earned his degree. Nevertheless, while at college he qualified for the 1986 U.S. Open as an amateur, and turned professional the following year.

Daly's first big professional victory was a title during the 1987 Missouri Open. He won the Ben Hogan Utah Classic as well as two South African Sunshine Tour pro events in 1990. In 1991 he won the PGA championship, earning $230,000 for the tournament win. He gave $30,000 of his winnings to the family of a spectator who had been struck by lightning and killed during the competition.

John Daly is best known for his driving distance off the tee, which earned him the nickname “Long John”, his non-country club appearance and attitude, and his rough-and-tumble personal life. He is also notable for his victories during the 1991 PGA Championship as well as in the playoff win over Constantino Rocca in the 1995 Open Championship.

Aside from golf, Daly has built his fortune as an instructor and opponent in the Xbox 360, PS3, and PC video game called John Daly’s Prostroke Golf. He also has a partnership with Loudmouth Golf, a clothing company that includes licensing deals with the NFL's Dallas Cowboys and Arkansas Razorbacks. In 2006 he launched his own wine label, John Daly Wines but it was not a success. He's released two albums too - 2002's My Life and I Only Know One Way from 2010.

In 2014 he signed an endorsement deal with Rock Bottom Golf - one of the internet's biggest golf retailers. He owns JD Designs, a company which designs golf courses, including The Lion's Den, Dardanelle, Arkansas; Blarney Golf Resort, County Cork, Ireland; and Sevillano Links at Rolling Hills Casino in Corning, California - which was named "Best New Golf Course" by Golfweek magazine.

John Daly became infamous for his drinking and gambling activities with his impressive $35 million earning but also losing $90 million. His gambling and four divorces almost made him broke with little income and $40,000 in monthly obligations. Daly has admitted to losing up to $1 million a day at the height of his gambling.

Married four times, Daly has three children. His first marriage was to Dale Crafton and lasted from 1987 to 1990. In the summer of 1992 he married Bettye Fulford and the couple had a daughter - Shynah. Following charges of domestic violence, their divorce was finalized in 1995, and he married Paulette Dean later that same year. Their daughter, Sierra, was born in June 1995 and the couple divorced in 1995. Daly married Sherrie Miller in July 2001 and their son John Patrick Daly II was born in 2003. In 2010 Daly was awarded custody of John Jr. after Miller was jailed for interfering with Daly's visitation rights.

During a trip to England in 2019, Daly was bitten by a rare brown recluse spider and developed sepsis - he had emergency surgery while in the UK. In September 2020 John Daly announced that he had been diagnosed with bladder cancer. He revealed that the cancer had been successfully operated on but that there was a high chance of relapse and that he intended to live a healthier lifestyle to improve his chances.

John now concentrates on training and mentoring his son John Jr., who shows early signs of talent and a powerful swing like his father.
