Kanye West spared no expense when it came to celebrating his new girlfriend Julia Fox’s birthday, as he showered the actress as well as her friends with lavish gifts.
On Wednesday, the couple celebrated her 32nd birthday with a group dinner at Lucien, an upscale French bistro in New York City. At the dinner, Julia opened a series of gifts from Kanye, which TMZ reports included jewelry as well as a baby Birkin bag. But she wasn’t the only one who got spoiled – Kanye also gifted Birkin bags to her friends.
It's unclear exactly how much the rapper spent on designer bags and jewelry, but Hermes Birkin purses don’t come cheap. Business Insider reports that the price can range anywhere from $9,000 to $500,000, with Birkins being some of the rarest and most expensive bags to existing.
Despite their high price, Kanye has proven his love of showering the important women in his life with Birkins in the past.
In 2013, Kanye gifted his then-wife Kim Kardashian a $40,000 Birkin Bag that was hand-painted by George Condo, an American visual artist. Kanye previously commissioned Condo to do the artwork on his 2010 album "My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy."
The following year, Kanye made headlines for gifting Kim a Hermes that was hand-painted by their eldest daughter, North, who was only 1-years old at the time. Estimates suggested the bag could’ve cost anywhere between $10,000 to $100,000.
After finishing at Lucien, Kanye took Julia and their entourage to Sei Less, an Asian fusion speakeasy, where the group stayed until past midnight.
Speaking to PEOPLE Magazine, a source explained that Julia was thrilled with the birthday bash, adding she was “ecstatic” while “Kanye was happy.” The insider added that their relationship continues to go smoothly, noting that she’s a “good focus for him” and helps him “relax” amid his ongoing divorce.
Kim filed for divorce last February, citing irreconcilable differences. Though she requested to be made legally single in December, Kim and Kanye continue to navigate their divorce, which has been made complicated by Kanye’s public statements.
Last month, Kanye bought a house directly across the street from the mansion he used to share with Kim, claiming he did so to be closer to their kids. The rapper dished out $4.5 million on the property – almost half a million over the asking price – though reports say he has plans to renovate.
Kanye has also been critical of Kim’s new relationship with Saturday Night Live star Pete Davidson, saying he wants to “beat” the comedian in his new song “Eazy.”
So far, Kim has declined to publicly respond to Kanye’s comments about her new relationship or his decision to move in across the street from her.
