By 2024, Kim Kardashian's Met Gala looks had long been the focus of entertainment news.
Back in 2023, People.com published a retrospective of Kim's Met Gala ensembles over the years, including a floral maternity gown in 2013, and a "wet look" Thierry Mugler corseted frock in 2019:
"Kardashian's custom Thierry Mugler dress, the designer's first new creation in 20 years, was created to embody the designer's vision of her as 'this California girl stepping out of the ocean, wet, dripping.'
"The outfit also featured a dramatic corset, which Kardashian explained to Vogue made it hard to breathe."
Kim also infamously borrowed Marilyn Monroe's gown in 2022 to attend the ball with then-beau Pete Davidson, igniting controversy and sparking rumors that she damaged the dress.
In 2024, Kardashian pulled off yet another stunning Met Gala look for the May 6th event: a silver corseted piece with a sheer skirt, topped with a coordinating gray sweater by John Galliano.
Today.com reported that Kardashian said the sweater was a nod to the theme of the Met Gala in 2024 – Sleeping Beauties: Reawakening Fashion – and quoted her on that element of her outfit:
"Imagining having the best night of your entire life with your most magical person and you are just in a garden. You've overslept, you wake up after like, literally the best night of your life and I'm just running out ...
"My dress is falling off because it was one of those nights and I just grab my boyfriend's sweater to, like, run off and make it to where have to be."
As was the case for prior Met Galas, Kardashian's corset also inspired a number of articles about the safety of waist training.

As for Kim Kardashian's Met Gala shoes, they didn't immediately capture attention as the night's outfits were judged on social media.
On May 7th, the morning after the Met Gala, Vogue uploaded a video – "Inside Kim Kardashian’s Dream Met Gala Look" – to their YouTube channel:
Vogue's video was something like a "Get Ready With Me" clip, accompanying Kardashian through the process of pulling her Met Gala look together.
Throughout the video, Kim talks about her Galliano ensemble, as stylists encircle her, brandishing curling wands.
At around the 6:18 mark, someone hands one of the shoes to Kardashian — a clear, acrylic shoe with no visible heel.
Kim compares its absence of a heel to ballet poses, and says of her Met Gala shoes:
"This is my shoe ... It's clever because if I had a shoe with a heel, the heel gets stuck in the metal skirt ... and so that was our issue, walking, so I'm going to have to put these on.
"And to wear these, you're on your tiptoes, and you're balancing the whole time, flexing your calf muscles, so, that's what I'm gonna have to do, is stand on my tippy toes, but I think ballerinas do it, and they probably have a lot of practice ...
"... This is our only practice ... but we'll do it, I think we really need the height on this look, so we gotta do what we gotta do."
In the Vogue video, Kim mainly described and demonstrated her shoes, but she didn't seem to identify a maker.
On May 8th, Cosmopolitan identified Kim Kardashian's Met Gala shoes as the notably affordable brand "Pleasers":
"Kim Kardashian's Margiela Met Gala dress was hiding a budget-friendly secret: a pair of heel-less Pleasers (more commonly referred to as "stripper shoes"), which are available for just $65.95."
Per Cosmopolitan, Kim Kardashian's Met Gala shoes currently retailed for just over $65, and were in stock in every size on the brand's website.
