Las Vegas Raiders quarterback Marcus Mariota received a great deal of bonuses in the team's Week 15 overtime loss to the Los Angeles Chargers on Monday Night Football.
Mariota had to take over for starting quarterback Derek Carr, who left the game late in the first quarter after suffering a groin injury while running out of bounds. The latter didn't return, and his season is in doubt.
ESPN's Field Yates reported that Mariota would earn an additional $200,000 if he played over 60 percent of the Raiders' snaps in a game. The number would increase to $325,000 if he led the Raiders to a victory.
Not only that, but Yates also reported that Mariota's salary would move up by $625,000 if he played more than 60 percent of snaps in a game. And he did just that against the Chargers.
So with that, Mariota actually received nearly $825,000 in incentives for playing the majority of the Raiders' game on Thursday. That's quite the bonus to receive despite a tough loss.
Mariota signed a two-year, $17.6 million contract with the Raiders in free agency. With Carr piecing together one of his best seasons, head coach Jon Gruden didn't have much of a reason to start Mariota.
But with Carr very likely done for the season, Mariota will get a chance to show his value for the Raiders' Week 16 and 17 tilts. If anything else, Mariota could enhance his value to teams looking for new starting quarterbacks in the 2020 offseason.

Several teams like the New England Patriots, Denver Broncos, Detroit Lions, San Francisco 49ers and Washington Football Team could be looking for new starters, after all.
Mariota was drafted second overall by the Tennessee Titans in 2015. He struggled through the first six games of 2019 and was replaced in Week 6 by Ryan Tannehill, who has remained the team's franchise quarterback.
The Raiders host the Miami Dolphins this Saturday.
