For the first time in 50 years, the Kansas City Chiefs are in the Super Bowl thanks to the heroics of third-year quarterback Patrick Mahomes.
A year after winning the MVP award, Mahomes took it a step further by pacing Kansas City right into Super Bowl LIV, where they'll play the San Francisco 49ers at Hard Rock Stadium in Miami.
Mahomes led the Chiefs to come-from-behind wins over the Houston Texans and the Tennessee Titans in the Divisional Round and AFC Championship Game, respectively.
With the New England Patriots' dynasty likely over, Mahomes and the Chiefs figure to be the new sheriffs in town. At least, Mahomes has at least toppled Patriots quarterback Tom Brady in one major category.
According to ESPN's Adam Schefter, Mahomes surpassed Brady as the NFL leader in "player-idenfitied merchandise." Schefter noted that the six-time Super bowl champion was atop the list for two straight years.
A year ago today, Brady and the Patriots stunned Mahomes' Chiefs in overtime of the AFC Championship Game, en route to a sixth Super Bowl title. But now, it's Mahomes' time to shine on the grand stage.

Brady has been the face of the NFL for almost a full decade now, but he faces an uncertain future in Foxborough. He's expected to test the free agent market, and it's possible that Brady winds up playing elsewhere in 2020.
Nothing lasts forever, and that includes both the New England dynasty and Brady's status as the face of the league. Mahomes emerged as the game's best player in 2018, and he'll have a chance to cement that notion in less than two weeks.
Regardless of what happens in two weeks, it's safe to say that Mahomes has overtaken everybody else as the true face of the NFL. He's only 24 years of age, too. Simply put, Mahomes and Kansas City are here to dominate for a long time.
