Barbados-based designer Shanice Taylor’s career is looking up thanks to pop star Rihanna. According to Face 2 Face Africa, Shanice started crocheting only seven months ago when she began looking for a second source of income amid the coronavirus pandemic. A little more than half a year later, however, Shanice has become a notable up-and-coming fashion designer thanks to newfound publicity brought on by Rihanna.

In an Instagram post made earlier this month, Rihanna shared several images of herself in a crochet dress that was handmade by Shanice. The off-white, mini dress complimented her Bottega Veneta heels of the same color. Rihanna used the opportunity to advertise her new Butta Drop whipped oil body cream, one of the newest releases from her brand Fenty Skin. The Butta Drop could be seen slathered on the singer’s legs, giving it a beautiful, bronzed glow. The post was liked over 8 million times and featured thousands of comments, many of which acknowledged how beautiful the dress was.

In the caption, Rihanna described the new Butta Drop as “glossy” and “whipped.” She added that it leaves the wearer with a shimmery glow that isn’t sticky. Rihanna also mentioned that the bottle is refillable, giving it an eco-friendly edge. Butta Drop can be found in a variety of retailers, including Sephora, which lists the product as $52 for 200ml. It has 4.6 stars out of 5 on the makeup retailer’s website.

Rihanna declined to tag the designer or mention brand name in her post. But Shanice was quick to share the news to her Instagram page when she realized the singer was caught wearing one of her pieces. Shanice, who goes by @shasweets23 on Instagram and has a little over 3,000 followers, posted several pics of RiRi in the dress as well as a behind-the-scenes pic of her making the custom piece. Rihanna even replied in the comments, writing, “Thank you so much sis! Love it! Bajan Massive!

According to Harper’s Bazaar, Rihanna first launched Fenty Skin last July, which is a sister company to her makeup brand Fenty Beauty. The brand prides itself in using sustainable, recyclable material as well as natural ingredients. The Butta Drop features a variety of nourishing ingredients, including shea butter, glycerin, and Kalahari melon oil.

Butta Drop was released at the same time as Fenty Beauty’s new Bright Fix Eye Brightener. Featuring 3.9 stars on Sephora and a $33 price tag, the product promises to brighten under eyes and conceal imperfections. It comes in sixteen different shades to work with a variety of skin tones.
