Selena Quintanilla Perez was an American singer, entrepreneur, and fashion designer who was worth $25 million before her untimely death in 1995. She was a Latin sensation and had managed to attain widespread fame by the time she was 12. Fourteen of her singles made it to the Top Ten Latin Charts, and she managed to sell more than 21 million album copies. She won the Vocalist Award of the Year in 1987 after bagging the Tejano Music Awards. She went on to win the award for eight consecutive times again starting from 1989. Her first huge recording contract was with EMI Latin and she released her debut album with them in 1989.
She was born 0n April 16, 1971, in Lake Jackson, United States as the last child of her parents. She was shot and killed by the founder of the Selena Perez fan club on March 31, 1995, at the age of 23. Her demise created a widespread impact and numerous memorials and vigils which were held in her honor.
