Stephen Harper is a Canadian Conservative Party leader who served as Canada's prime minister from 2006 to 2015.
Stephen was born in Toronto in 1959 and earned his bachelor's and master's degrees in economics from the University of Calgary. In 2006, after multiple terms in the House of Commons, he became Canada's prime minister. Harper became a proponent of an enlarged military and lower taxes. He strengthened his standing when his Conservative Party earned most of the 2011 federal election. In 2015, Harper tenure as prime minister came to an end after the defeat by Liberal candidate Justin Trudeau.

Harper was a Conservative candidate. He became the 22nd prime minister of Canada last February 2006 and brought an end to the 13-year liberal government. He is a staunch proponent of social conservativism, smaller government, and laissez-faire capitalism. The Harper administration had a neoconservative mindset that focuses on the enlargement of the military, reduction of taxes and securing of Arctic waters for energy resources. He is credited to steer the Canadian economy through the financial crisis last 2008.
During Canada's combat mission in Afghanistan, Stephen took a more hard-line approach to crime and significantly increased the funds for the prison system.
