It's true, men can't get enough girl-on-girl action, especially when it involves a couple of their favorite heterosexual film and TV hotties. While researching the top ten, it was surprising to find that the list of straight female actresses who have played lesbian roles is extremely long. It seems more scripts that are getting picked up for production are including more and more of this eye-candy for men. Of course, most actresses would not turn down a sexy lesbian role at this time either, so it ends up being a win-win situation.
Male viewers get to see one of their favorite fantasies on the big screen in a regular, non adults-only theater. The actresses who are signing up for these roles gain in popularity practically overnight, so it can be considered a smart career move.
In fact, women know the power they wield when it comes to male fantasies, so everyone's getting into the act. Our guess is that we're going to be seeing more and more of it on the big and small screens until it no longer holds the same mystique and sexiness.
After reviewing the long list of actresses who have played lesbian parts, we were able to narrow it down to the ten actresses we think you'll enjoy the most.
10. Piper Perabo - Imagine Me and You
This is a sweet movie about a bride who is ready to get married and winds up falling in love with the female wedding florist on her big day. Piper Perabo plays Rachel, the bride, and is confused by her feelings for Lena Headey, the florist, when they first meet. There is an instant attraction and before we know it, the two women are having to face the truth. Rachel's new husband sees the shift in his wife's behavior and thinks he is losing his wife to someone else. Little does he know she is coming to the realization that she is a lesbian.
9. Sharon Stone - If These Walls Could Talk
In 2000, Ellen DeGeneres and Sharon Stone played in this highly acclaimed HBO three-part anthology. The women play a couple who are desperately trying to become pregnant and have a child. To have more control over the situation, the two look for a sperm donor among their gay male friends. However, after going through the ups and downs of wanting to make the right decision they come up dry. When an ovulation period begins, they end up going to a sperm donor bank. Since her role in Basic Instinct, Stone has always been known for her on-screen sexiness; lesbian or heterosexual.
8. Sarah Shahi - The L Word
Sarah Shahi joined the cast of The L Word during its second season and played the role of DJ Carmen de la Pica Morales. Her contract was not renewed after two seasons but she was ready to move on, so didn't question the decision. In fact, it worked out really well - she was given her own legal drama on the USA network, Fairly Legal, which unfortunately didn't last long. She immediately got a supporting role in Person of Interest, which has gotten more interesting due to the addition of her character. So it looks like that's where she will stay for a while. Shahi is always a fan favorite, particularly with the men.
7. Angelina Jolie - Gia
One of Angelina's first major acting roles was a job playing a drug-addicted, lesbian model, Gia Marie Carangi. Elizabeth Mitchell played her lesbian lover, Adrianna and this twosome is still considered super hot. For the record, Jolie is a self-proclaimed bi-sexual and has no fear of discussing or showing her sexuality, particularly in the years before she became a mother and ambassador. Her reputation has gone from bad-girl to role model although we know she is still a wild child at heart. She is considered one of the world's most beautiful women.
6. Sarah Michelle Gellar - Cruel Intentions
This kiss was a long, steamy, in-depth French kiss between Sarah Michelle Gellar and Selma Blair. The scene is so well-liked, that it has been posted many times on Youtube where it has been viewed by millions. In this scene, Gellar seduces Blair, who is the daughter of the prep school headmaster, to get revenge on her ex-boyfriend. The kiss is one of those slow, intimate smackers that engages viewers on many levels. Need we say more?
5. Lucy Liu - Ally McBeal
Lucy Liu's big break came after landing this role as forceful, evil, Ling Woo, in the popular television series Ally McBeal that ran from 1998-2002. Liu's role as the Mandarin-speaking Chinese American attorney garnered a lot of fans, so the temporary role became a permanent character in the series. Although she is portrayed as a fiercely disinterested and heterosexual character, there is a scene where she and Ally have a deep, x-rated kiss. It was so sensual, the episode was banned in Singapore.
4. Kerry Washington - She Hate Me
This 2004 independent comedy-drama She Hate Me was directed by Spike Lee and starred Ellen Barkin, Woody Harrelson, Kerry Washington and John Turturro. Although the film was nominated for various awards, it did poorly at the box office. Anthony Mackie plays the lead role, Jack Armstrong, who is falsely accused of fraud. He becomes a sperm donor for his ex-fiancee (Washington). The twist is that his ex-fiancee had previously ended the relationship because she decided she was a lesbian but comes back into the picture when she decides she wants a baby. The premise was cute but the limited distribution didn't give it a chance to gain momentum.
3. Rachel Bilson - How I Met Your Mother
In season six, Rachel Bilson appears in How I Met Your Mother as "The Mother's" lesbian roommate, Cindy. Although her role was not large, it started in season five when she had a short-lived relationship with Ted. After much soul-searching she decides she is a lesbian and later reappears in season six to everyone's surprise.
2. Eva Longoria - Without Men
This twosome was a huge favorite among male viewers. Eva Longoria and Kate del Castillo have quite a few sexy, lesbian love scenes during this 2011 movie Without Men. The film was directed by Gabriela Tagliavini and is based on the novel, Tales from the Town of Widows by James Canon.
1. Penelope Cruz - Vicky Cristina Barcelona
Penelope Cruz is a sex goddess by anyone's standards. Vicky Cristina Barcelona gives us yet another opportunity to see her pouty, feisty and sexy acting. Bardem, who is Cruz's husband in real life, plays the role of the hot, Spanish painter. When Cristina decides to stay on leaving her traveling girlfriend on her own, Antonio's spicy and passionate ex-wife, Maria Elena, appears on the scene. One thing leads to another and Maria Elena eventually suggests a sexual triangle between the three, which works for a short while until the whole thing blows apart.
