For all the pot-lovers around the world who have seen movies like Pineapple Express, it's probably the only movie they refer to in remembering Seth Rogan. But what some of his fans may not know is that in addition to acting in Pineapple Express, he was also the executive producer for that film and many others that fans know and love. Born in Vancouver, Canada, in 1982, the Donnie Darko star actually began as a stand-comedian in his native country before moving to Los Angeles to further pursue acting and filmmaking, as did all the great comedians such as Eddie Murphy, Chris Rock, and Dave Chapelle. Now he sits with a net worth of $80 million and is one of the most successful comedians in Hollywood at only 39-years old. Here are 10 of the highest-grossing movies he has produced.
Neighbors
Seth Rogan does an excellent job of making what may seem like the mundane events of everyday living into a masterpiece of comedy. After all, that's what comedy is all about. In 2014, he produced and acted in Neighbors, a comedy about a new family consisting of Mac Radner (Seth Rogan), his Australian wife Kelly Radner (Rose Byrne), and their infant daughter, Stella. They move in next to Delta Psi Beta, a boys' fraternity notorious for wild parties, headed by Teddy Sanders (Zac Efron) and Pete Regazolli (Dave Franco). Mac and Kelly confront them about their disturbance as it's preventing their daughter from sleeping, and Teddy befriends them, asking them to never call the police but only him if he needs to. However, the noise persists and an all-out war ensues between Mac and Kelly against Teddy. A few of the other actors include Christopher Mintz-Plasse, Lisa Kudrow, and Halston Sage. Rogan's production skills and acting paid off, and the film grossed $270. 94 million at the box office.
The Green Hornet
Seeming more like a cross between Batman Begins and Starsky and Hutch, Rogan again brought his creative genius and filmmaking skills to the fore in 2011's The Green Hornet. The film follows Britt Reid (Seth Rogan), the son of the Daily Sentinel's publisher, James Reid (Tom Wilkinson), who becomes the inheritor of all his father's publishing company and assets following his father's death by a bee sting. Britt fires all his father's employees after his funeral but keeps Kato (Jay Chou) who turns out to be a martial artist. After rescuing a couple getting mugged (credit to Kato) Britt convinces Kato to become a crime-fighting duo. Together, they plan to neutralize Benjamin Chudnofsky (Christopher Waltz), a Russian gangster who aspires to create a 'super-mafia' by uniting all the Los Angeles crime families. Britt then hires a researcher named Lenore Case (Cameron Diaz) and begins writing articles in the Daily Sentinel to get Chudnofsky's attention and ultimately hinder his plan. The film grossed $229.15 million worldwide.
Knocked Up
In 2007, the romantic comedy Knocked Up made its way onto the big screen. Despite credits going to Judd Apatow as the writer and producer, Rogan is in fact the executive producer. Apatow and Rogan again take a seemingly casual case of a one-night-stand that leads to pregnancy and create a comedy with a powerful message to parents and couples to take responsibility for their own lives and their children's lives. The movie centers around Alison Scott (Katherin Heigl), a Los Angeles reporter who has been given an on-role on E!. She celebrates at a nightclub with her friend, Debbie (Leslie Mann), and ends the night drunk and in bed with Ben Stone (Seth Rogan), a remiss Canadian immigrant who lives off injury compensation and works part-time for a celebrity porn website. Alison realizes she is pregnant and contacts Ben and, though off to a rough start, they work things out as a couple and new family. The film grossed $219.26 million worldwide.
The 40-Year Old Virgin
If you're living in 2022, it's nearly impossible to have never heard of The 40-Year Old Virgin. Seth Rogan took the role of co-producer as well as an actor in this film. There isn't much ambiguity regarding what the comedy is all about as the name says it all. Andy Stitzer (Steve Carell) is a reserved, 40-year old virgin who quit pursuing a partner to share himself with after many missed opportunities. Living alone in his apartment, he occupies his time with action figure collectibles and video games. And when it is revealed to his co-workers, namely David (Paul Rudd), Jay (Romany Malco), and Cal (Seth Rogan), they make it their mission to get him laid, which have less than positive results. However, it all changes when he meets Trish (Catherine Keener), a mother of three who gives Andy a chance. The film ends with Andy finally experiencing himself with a woman, an experience he wants to re-live quite often. The comedy remains a classic, grossing $176.2 million at the box office.
Superbad
When Superbad came out in 2007, it was definitely different and brought a freshness to the world of comedy film. After being invited by Jules (Emma Stone) to come to a party at her home that night, Seth offers to sponsor the alcohol, while Evan promises to get vodka for his crush, Becca (Martha MacIsaac). Understanding they're underage, their friend Fogel (Christopher Mintz-Plasse) organizes a fake ID and offers to get the alcohol himself. Things don't go as planned when a robber enters the liquor store and knocks out Fogel, prompting Officer Michaels (Seth Rogan) and Officer Slater (Bill Hader) to respond. Perceiving that their friend will be arrested for the fake ID, Seth and Evan flee the scene and attempt to make their way to the party anyway. On a budget of $20 million, Superbad grossed $169.9 million at the box office.
Sausage Party
In 2016, Seth was back at it behind the scenes producing an adult computer-animated film called Sausage Party. In all honesty, it's not what it sounds like. The comedy centers on certain Shopwell supermarket items that view humans as gods who come to escort them to a utopia known as the "Great Beyond" once they are purchased. Hearing this, Frank the sausage (Seth Rogan), his girlfriend, hot dog bun Brenda (Kristen Wigg), Frank's sausage friend named Barry (Michael Cera), another sausage friend named Carl (Jonah Hill), honey mustard (Danny McBride), and other shelf items. Honey mustard tells Frank, Brenda, and their friends to find Firewater (Bill Hader) in the liquor aisle, who reveals that the lie of the Great Beyond was made up to alleviate the harsh reality that they will be eaten. Frank makes it his duty to now spread this truth all over the Shopwell supermarket. The film grossed $141.3 at the worldwide box office.
This Is The End
When Seth Rogan's unique sense of humor meets end of world speculations, the result is a movie like This Is The End. Released in 2013, Rogan wears all hats in the production of this movie as director, producer, screenwriter, and story creator. When James Franco decides to throw a massive party at his Los Angeles mansion, Seth Rogan and his best friend, Jay Baruchel, also attend. Present at the party are celebrities such as Rihanna, Kevin Hart, Jonah Hill, Craig Robinson, Emma Watson, Michael Cera, Paul Rudd, Mindy Kaling, and a slew of other A-list celebrities. However, when Baruchel leaves the party to buy cigarettes, beams of light shoot down to earth and people ascend upwards to heaven. Then a massive earthquake strikes, opening up a massive hole to the core of the earth and 'swallowing' some celebrities. As chaos ensues, Jay, Seth, James, Danny McBride, Jonah, and Craig must survive on rations while fending off demonic creatures set loose on the earth. This apocalyptic comedy grossed $126.53 at the box office.
Good Boys
Produced and released in 2019, Good Boys is a comedy that some viewers may find similar to Superbad, just minus the law enforcement. It involves three school friends, namely Max (Jacob Tremblay), Thor (Brady Noon), and Lucas (Keith L. Williams) who are all facing a dilemma in their lives. Max has a crush on his classmate, Brixlee (Millie Davis), Lucas's parents are getting a divorce, and Thor gets mocked by his peers for singing. They plan to attend a popular kid's party, Soren, giving Max the perfect opportunity to kiss Brixlee. So that he doesn't mess up his first kiss, the boys use their father's drone to spy on his neighbor, Hannah (Molly Gordon) to learn proper kissing. In the process, they steal Hannah's ecstasy pills and destroy the drone. They endure a series of events to replace the drone, almost losing their friendship in the process. In the end, they remained friends, and each got their heart's desire. On a $20 million budget, the film grossed $111.1 million worldwide.
Neighbors 2
The war between sororities and the Radner's continues in Seth's sequel production of Neighbors 2. In this comedy, Mac Radner (Seth Rogan) and Kelly Radner (Rose Byrne) are expecting their second child and as a result, plan to sell their house to the Baiers. However, there is a 30-day waiting period. College freshman Shelby (Chloë Grace Moretz), Beth (Kiersey Clemons), and Nora (Beanie Feldstein) decide to create their own sorority, Kappa Nu, to host their own parties since they despise frat boys' parties. Meanwhile, Teddy Sanders (Zac Efron) is yet to find a career since his previous arrest; Pete (Dave Franco) is a successful architect that has come out as gay, and Scoonie (Christopher Mintz-Plasse) has launched his own mobile app. Pete kicks Teddy out of his home and, in order to pay rent, offers to throw parties for the girls. But the girls are more devious than they let on, and Teddy joins Mac and Kelly to bring them down. After vandalizing their home, the Rander's buyer changes their mind. But after they work through their differences, Mac and Kelly rent their house to the girls, bringing them more money. Though not as financially successful as the first movie, it still raked in $108.7 million.
