The National Hockey League (NHL) is considered to be the premier professional ice hockey league in the world. The NHL is comprised of 30 teams in the U.S. and Canada. Coaching hockey can be a pleasing profession for those who are motivated about the sport. Head coaches are highly paid if they have an experience as a former hockey player. A coach’s salary may be high or low depending on the professionalism, experience, and rate of success of coaching.
10. Ron Wilson (Washington Capitals, $750,000)
Ronald Lawrence Wilson was born on May 28, 1955, is a Canadian-born American former professional ice hockey player and head coach. He earns $750,000. In his coaching career in the NHL, he has coached the Toronto Maple Leafs, San Jose Sharks, Washington Capitals and Mighty Ducks of Anaheim. Wilson holds dual citizenship of the United States and Canada. Wilson also played on the U.S. national hockey team on a number of occasions throughout his career, including the 1975, 1981, 1983 and 1987 Ice Hockey World Championship tournaments. As a coach, Wilson is well known for integrating technology into his coaching plans. He and assistant coach Tim Hunter introduced personal computers into the team's strategy planning and burned DVDs of Capitals games for the team to review. Wilson also introduced a tablet computer to be used in the team bench by himself or his assistants to instantly plan out strategies and review plays.
9. Joel Quenneville (St. Louis Blues, $800,000)
Joel Quenneville, also known as “coach q” is a former professional ice hockey defenseman and the head coach of the St. Louis Blues in the 1999-2000 season. Quenneville won the Stanley cup in 1996with the Colorado Avalanche but only as a head coach. A year after he was hired by the St. Louis Blues to take over as the head coach. In his term, he brought the team to a remarkable 7 straight playoff berth. But in his 8th season as head coach, he was fired due to the team’s lacking performance. In the 1999-2000 season, the Blues finished first in Central division but lose in the first round in playoffs courtesy of San Jose Sharks.
8. Ken Hitchcock (Dallas Stars, $800,000)
Ken Hitchcock is an NHL hockey coach of the team Dallas Stars. Hitchcock’s most remarkable year was the 1998–99 NHL season; wherein he guided the Stars to a team best regular season record of 51–19–12 at 69.5% winning rate. In the playoffs at the same year, he led the team to a Stanley Cup victory over the Buffalo Sabres. However, in the next season, Hitchcock was able to carry the team to the Stanley Cup finals with a record of 43-23-10, and made a decent salary of $800,000 but eventually lose to the New Jersey Devils.
7. Darryl Sutter (San Jose Sharks, $825,000)
Darryl Sutter is a former professional hockey player that played for Chicago Blackhawk for his entire career. He was drafted in 1978 and played for 8 seasons but never won a Stanley cup. Stutter was always considered as a great forward but never appeared in the all-star game. He began coaching in the year 1992 for his former team then he was hired to coach San Jose Sharks in year 1997. In 2000,the team finished 4th in Pacific division with a record of 35-30-10.The team made to the playoffs as Stutter earned $825,000 but they lost in the second round.
6. Terry Murray (Florida Panthers, $850,000)
Terry Murray is also a retired professional ice hockey player. He was a drafted in 1970 and played as a defenseman. He retired in 1982 as a player and eventually became an assistant coach for his brother to build the first NHL brothers coaching combination. He became an official head coach in the year 1989 when the Washington Capitals hired him. In 2000, he coached the Florida Panthers and finished the league with 43-27-6 record, produced 98points and became 2nd in Southeast division. The team reached the playoffs but they were knockout in the first round.
5. Patrick Burns ( Boston Bruins, $850,000)
Patrick Burns was born on April 4, 1952. He was a National Hockey Leaguehead coach. He earned $850,000. Over 14 seasons between 1988 and 2004, he coached in 1,019 games with the Montreal Canadiens, Toronto Maple Leafs, Boston Bruins, and New Jersey Devils. He retired in 2005 after recurring battles with cancer, which eventually claimed his life. On March 26, 2010, a fan-based Facebook campaign was launched to get Burns inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame on the merits of his coaching record.

MarcJoseph John Crawford was on born February 13, 1961, is a Canadian professional ice hockeyhead coach with the ZSC Lions of the National League A. He earns $1.0M. He was previously the head coach of four other organizations and won a Stanley Cup in 1996 with the Colorado Avalanche. He is also a former professional ice hockeyforward who played for the Vancouver Canucks..After two less-than-stellar seasons with Cornwall, Crawford moved to the AHL, and in his first season with the St. John's Maple Leafs, he took his team to the 1992 Calder Cup finals, losing to the Adirondack Red Wings. The following season, Crawford was awarded the Louis A. R. Pieri Memorial Award as the AHL's coach of the year.
