Cupcakes have been gaining popularity with exposure from places like Sprinkles and shows on Food Network, such as Cupcake Wars. They are also delicious, which is why people are willing to pay big bucks to enjoy one.
Even if you're an old-fashioned dessert eater (you know who you are), chances are you dig a few flavors of the popular desert whether it's red velvet, cheesecake, or vanilla. Just like bacon and cheese, they will never go out of style.
How much are avid cupcake lovers actually willing to pay for a cupcake that makes their taste buds jump with excitement at just the thought? Turns out there are many out there willing to bust out a credit card or cash to grab one of their choice. Here are a few of the most expensive cupcakes in the world.
1) Rox Diamond Cupcake

Price: $150,000
This delicious looking iced pastry shines with gems from ROX luxury jeweler and Cupcake Glasgow--the team behind the delightful diamond dessert. It was created in 2010 to mark the three-day Glam in the City fashion event in Scotland. The Rox Diamond Cupcake takes the crown for most expensive cupcake mostly due to the tens of tiny, valuable diamonds scattered throughout the yummy treat.
2) Sparkling Red Velvet Cupcake

Price: $55,000
Any woman would love to get this after a nice meal because it's delicious and includes an eight carat engagement ring in the center. Philadelphia-based store Cupcakes Gourmet created the Sparkling Red Velvet Cupcake for Valentine's Day in 2012. The bakers said that it was created to embody the store’s motto, “love tastes like this,” and also to give people a sweeter option when popping the question to their lover.
3) Mervis Diamond’s Fantasty Cupcake

Price: $30, 000
Although it's not the prettiest cupcake on Earth, it's one of the most expensive. Mervis Diamond Importers created this decadent dessert, each one with eight ideal cut brilliant diamonds. They were specially made in the 2009 wedding season to celebrate the store's 100th anniversary. The Mervis Diamond Fantasy Cupcake is only available on special request. Talk about one expensive ass bite!
4) Food Network UK’s Cupcake Dress
FoodNetwork
Price: $1,257
No list about costly desserts is complete without a cupcake dress. It takes 300 of these tiny, tasty treats to make a complete piece. Don't try to hug or touch a woman wearing one of these. Things will get messy quick. Question: What happens when she has to go to the bathroom?
5) Food Network UK’s Luxe Gold Cupcake
FoodNetwork
Price: $1, 227. 70
We all know Food Network doesn't play around. The Luxe Gold Cupcake is jammed pack with peace and champagne jam with a small amount of buttercream made with Chateau Yquem. Oh, did I mention that it’s also wrapped in a twenty-four carat gold leaf and comes with a bodyguard to keep watch as you chow down? At least you don't have to worry about getting jumped.
6) Bloomsbury’s Golden Phoenix

Price: $1,000
This shiny cupcake is actually the world's most expensive edible cupcake; meaning, you can actually eat everything you see on it unlike the other ones on the list. Apparently, it took Shafeena Yusuff Ali, the founder of Bloomsbury's Golden Phoenix, five weeks to develop the cupcake. That's not surprising considering each one is frosted with edible gold dust and served on a Villari twenty-four carat Maria Antoinette Princess Tea Trolley!
7) Palazzo Decadence D’or Cupcake

Price: $750
Sure, you may not be able to pronounce the name of this cupcake but you can enjoy it and probably will with all of the extravagant ingredients. These treats are available in Las Vegas at the Palazzo Resort made with edible gold flakes, gold-vanilla caviar, Palmira Single Estate chocolate, and some Louis XIII de Remy Martin Cognac bottled in 1900. It almost looks and sounds too good to eat, despite not having diamonds.
8) Crave's Maple Bacon Cupcake
TheDailyMeal
Price: $45 each
Now things are getting a little more affordable. These are still going to cost you a lot of money but who doesn't love bacon, sugar, and icing? Crave's Maple Bacon Cupcake is out of Australia and comes with a champagne macaron. I'd make the trip for one of these.
