Dave Bautista's Gears 5 character will be playable in the game's story on the upcoming Xbox Series X as it will allow for switching him with the iconic Marcus Fenix.

Fenix has been the franchise's main protagonist since the first Gears of War title dropped in 2006 - with John DiMaggio lending his voice since then - but fans loved Bautista so much, the developers will hand them the option of playing with him as the lead instead of Fenix.

So should you choose to roll with Batista, as he was known during his time with wrestling promotion WWE, he will seamlessly slot in for Marcus. Of course, his own voice will be used too.

Bautista first came to Gears 5 as a multiplayer skin last year. He's long expressed a desire to play Marcus in a live-action Gears movie so The Coalition seemingly greenlit him for the role by making him a playable character in the multiplayer version of the game. With the new Xbox console set for release early next month, the actor will be made an option in the actual Gears 5 campaign.

"He had his fan campaign on Twitter, vying to be the star in the much-talked-about movie ideas[...] the fans and him have said they want Batista as Marcus, so let's actually make it happen," Gears 5's lead producer Zoey Curnoe told IGN, with claims the addition was part of a "natural evolution."

Apart from giving fans the choice of playing as Bautista, the next-gen version of the title offers much more, including difficulty modes and a New Game+ option which is quite common in games nowadays and allows players to play games over with all of the gear and abilities gained during their many hours of gameplay during a campaign.

There will also be mutators, new achievements, and changes to the multiplayer aspect.
