In today’s society, we seek options that save both time and money, which is convenient to our daily schedules. Eating from fast food restaurants offer the quickest and cheapest solutions for a meal on the go. Gone are the days when a home cooked meal would be served on the table to feed a family. Instead, cheeseburgers and fries, both high in sodium and fats, are consumed on the go.
While doctors worry that these fast food options are filled with non nutritious ingredients that lead to health risks, it appears that the non-edible objects that are often discovered in the meals offer more of a concern. From drugs to furry four legged creatures, the truth behind what ultimately ends up in our purchases from fast food joints is extremely disturbing. Whether it occurs by accident or premeditated behavior, the horrible discoveries many unsuspecting customers receive upon taking a bite is just plain nasty.
If you’re looking for a diet plan that restricts you from being tempted to indulge in your favorite fast food restaurants, then I strongly suggest you take a mental note of these foreign objects that are found in meals. After reviewing this list, a mental picture of these nauseating findings will have you speeding right past the notorious fast food joints. I would also advise you to prepare your gag reflexes for the worst as you read about the 15 grossest things people have allegedly found in fast food. Bon appetit!
15. Sharp Plastic
Via huffingtonpost.com
Dessert is hands down always the best part of the meal. But for an Oklahoma City mother and her children, it led to the worst discovery. After taking a bite into her chocolate chip cookie from McDonald’s, the mother realized she was biting into more than just sugary sweet chips. Razor-sharp pieces of plastic were baked into the cookies and cut her tongue well enough to draw blood. Concerned for her children, she had them checked by a doctor and luckily they were unharmed. Following the medical checkup, the mother reached out to the McDonald’s in which they bought their meals from and learned that the same McDonald’s location had previously found similar shards throughout the batch. Despite her unethical findings, the woman admitted that she only wanted an apology from the corporation, rather than filing a lawsuit. It turns out that raw dough isn’t the most unsafe part of a cookie…
14. Drugs
Via dailymail.co.uk
In-N-Out Burger is notorious for their secret menu items and a customer received a foreign object in his order that was horrific shock. A Los Angeles man ordered a simple cheeseburger and milkshake from the popular burger joint, but woke up the next morning feeling completely unlike himself. The customer shared that he experienced the symptoms of an irregular heartbeat and an increased blood pressure. He checked his trash that consisted of his meal from the evening before and was repulsed to find a napkin and two capsules in the bottom of his cup. In his lawsuit against the company, the man stated he was both nauseous and mentally distressed after consuming the milkshake. It was later discovered that the capsules contained methamphetamine after being tested at the Utica Toxicology Service. Despite the controversial findings, In-N-Out is fighting the lawsuit and they are denying the claims that the drugs originated from their franchise shop.
13. Nails
A 47-year-old Swedish man apparently should have asked McDonald’s to hold the nails when ordering his burger. The unlucky customer was pierced with the sharp object through his gums when taking his first bite into the sandwich. The man proceeded to take another bite (not too sure that was the brightest idea) and was pierced again with another nail that ultimately became stuck in his gums. The victim said the pain was indescribable and was shocked to discover that a nail in his food would cause him so much pain. After removing the objects from his mouth, the man became sick and coughed up both blood and the burger in which he took bites of. The scene had the restaurant springing into action as the manager and staff tried to help. The horrifying discovery caused the man to now become extremely wary of fast food restaurants and he admitted to a local paper that he and his family would make their own burgers at home from now on. Smart move.
12. Feather
Via yelp.com
Seeing as though McDonald’s has multiple incidents of customers finding disgusting objects in food, it makes you wonder how they are still able to draw in millions of people on a daily basis. An unsuspecting woman joined many other customers who have discovered jaw dropping additions to their foods. While enjoying her McNuggets, the woman began tasting what she assumed was hair after taking a bite into her food, “I started to feel like there was hair in my mouth and then I saw that there was white hair on my tongue. I looked at my food and there was feathers coming off the nugget.” She was able to remove the object from her mouth and concluded it was in fact a feather that was on more than one of her nuggets. McDonald’s conducted an investigation in order to determine which of its suppliers was responsible for the batch of nuggets so that the incident would not occur again. It’s pretty obvious that the young woman was not “lovin’ it”.
11. Bugs
Via huffingtonpost.com
Attempting to save time during her day, a young woman in London ordered a typical cheeseburger and fries from the drive-thru for what she hoped would be a delicious lunch. Unfortunately, her meal was served with a disgusting side; bugs. She found multiple tiny insects crawling throughout her food as she was unwrapping her meal. “I was driving and had a couple of chips without looking. When I got back, I went to get the chips out and saw three or four bugs running around. I just chucked the box in the air. It made me feel really sick to the stomach,” the young woman told her local news outlet. Weeks prior to the incident, a health officer visited the McDonald's location and didn’t find any infestation inside the restaurant. However, since the meal was ordered from the drive-thru, it’s assumed that the bugs may have fallen into the bag from that station.
10. Cigarette
Via ranker.com
There’s nothing better than seeing the lit up Krispy Kreme sign advertising hot glazed donuts straight off the line. But for an Australian customer, finding a deep fried cigarette butt in their supposedly fresh breakfast treats was not satisfying. The customer, along with her pregnant friend, discovered the foreign object after biting into the donut. Horrified to find the used cigarette in their meal that was advertised as “fresh”, the friends posted a picture of the donut on Facebook. The two women claimed that the employees were smoking while working, which ultimately led to the used cigarette to end up in their food. The women took to social media to speak out regarding their finding to express their extreme disgust. “I’m so horrified to think that this huge company lets the employees smoke whilst cooking these donuts.”
Krispy Kreme conducted a thorough investigation when the women expressed the health concerns the incident could have evidently caused to the unborn child.
9. Paper Towel
Via huffingtonpost.com
A 7-year-old British boy tasted more than just his chicken tender while attempting to enjoy his meal from KFC. The child and his stepmom were horrified to discover that there was a paper towel fried onto the meat of the chicken. The mother told her local news source, “Realizing it was blue roll was worst than chicken. If it was bad chicken they might have just had a bad batch or something, but the blue roll could have been used for anything- it could have bleach or disinfectant on it.” After investigation, it was in fact concluded that the blue paper towel was used for KFC hygiene purposes. Through an investigation, officials believe that the used paper towel and had found its way into the breading container without the knowledge of the cook. The company offered the family a free meal, but common sense has me guessing they denied that offer.
8. Blood
Via delish.com
Hot sauce is a widely used condiment when enjoying a taco, however, a Louisville woman noticed the extra flavoring on her taco bore more of a strong resemblance to blood instead. On her way home with her young daughter in tow, the young woman stopped by her local Taco Bell/KFC joint restaurant to grab a quick dinner for her family. Once she arrived home, she noticed the red stains along the wrapping of her food before she was even able to take her first bite. Confused with the initial finding, she assumed it was ketchup that may have speared on her food wrappers. However, she was mortified to discover that wasn’t the case. Outraged with her discovery, she called Taco Bell and was horrified to learn that it was in fact blood that came in contact with her food after an employee had cut her finger while preparing the meal. Evidently, spicy tastes better on a taco; not human fluids.
7. Knife
Via businessinsider.com
Despite the that fact that Subway prepares your sandwich right in front you, limiting your cleanliness concerns, it’s what occurs back in the kitchen that brings about the biggest concern. A New York man immediately noticed that his sub tasted off after only a few bites. That’s when he discovered a large knifed baked into the bread of his 12-inch cold cut, “It’s shocking. You see this metal knife. I mean, it’s one thing seeing a hair or something. If I didn’t look at it, could you imagine what would happen? I could’ve slashed the side of my mouth.” While he was not injured from coming in contact with the knife during a bite, he did suffer a case of food poisoning after he became violently ill hours following the disturbing lunch. Doctors suspect that the sickness was caused from the contaminants of the tool that evidently seeped into his food. Barf.
6. Cockroach
Via ranker.com
If the picture alone doesn’t make you want to ban fast food from your diet, then I don’t know what else will. Finding a cockroach in our homes is traumatizing enough, therefore finding it on food would be the final straw. Forget the coffee, nothing starts your day more like finding a dead cockroach stuck to your hash brown. Just seconds before the man was about to take another bite, he felt something unusual on the bottom of his breakfast item. At first, he assumed the insect was a large moth, but upon further inspection he determined it was indeed a cockroach. Disgusted with his finding, he returned to the McDonald’s in which he purchased his meal to speak of his concerns with the manger. He spoke of the meeting on social media stating, “I took the thing and showed it to the manager and she marked my receipt so I could get the same meal for free next time I come in for breakfast. She didn’t seem all the concerned.” Classy.
5. Syringe
A man from Hawaii received a “whopping” surprise from taking a bite of his Burger King Triple Stacker and was reportedly injured by a needle. The incident caused him to be hospitalized for almost a week due to one needle making its way in his small intestine, while the other pierced his tongue drawing blood. Witnessing the traumatizing episode was the man’s wife, son, and the Burger King employees. As a Hawaii-based soldier, the victim reported that the event occurred on an Army base in central Oahu. Rightfully so, the victim filed legal documents against the restaurant in the U.S. District Court in Honolulu. He cited both physical and emotional injuries after he was on bed rest for almost a week. Interestingly enough, the lawsuit stated previous incidents in which foreign objects, including needles, have been found in other Burger King’s hamburgers that caused injuries as well. The Burger King corporation failed to give a comment on the event after the news broke.
4. Fried Chicken Head
Via madpatriots.com
Let’s face it, we all know where our food comes from, but do we really have to be reminded when we’re trying to eat? Well apparently McDonald's thinks so. When her young son refused to eat his meal because he wanted to play on the playground, the mother took matters in her own hands and decided not to let his meal go to waste. Before she could take a bite of what was supposed to be a nugget, she noticed her food was staring straight back at her. She told her local Virginia paper “I noticed that it had a beak and it have eyes. I screamed.” Rightfully so, the disgusted mother contacted the Food and Drug Administration for advice on how to handle the situation. Unsure if she would initially file a lawsuit, she did expect repercussions for the despicable incident that served her a friend chicken head, rather than a high in saturated fat fried nugget.
3. Rat
Via mirror.co.uk
Imagine biting into your crispy chicken tender, only to find out the texture to be rubbery and not chewable. It fact, not edible at all, and shaped like a rat. A California man took his claim to Facebook sharing with friends and family his tender that was apparently a fried rat. “It was very nasty,” the customer told a local Los Angeles radio station. “I spit it out. I looked down at my hand and I realized that it was in the shape of a rat with a tail and everything in it.” He returned to the location in which he purchased his meal and spoke to the manager who freaked out over the finding and confirmed his suspicions that it was indeed a rat. KFC quickly sprang into action and requested to have tests ran on the tender in hopes to find the situation to be all just a misunderstanding. In this case, this meal was not “finger lickin’ good”.
2. Condom
Talk about a not so happy meal. I don’t know about the rest of you, but when I was younger I was gifted with a toy in my Happy Meal, not a condom. So imagine the shock an innocent 7-year-old girl from Switzerland received when she discovered the condom hidden among her fries, just as she was about to dig into her meal. Disgusted and mortified with the finding, the young girl’s mother immediately called the police. With the authorities notified, the family wanted the incident properly investigated to ensure another similar event would not occur again. The young girl was taken to the hospital in order to be sure that the incident didn’t impose a severe health risk. The McDonald's franchise refused to comment on the the episode to the public due to the investigation. It makes you wonder how the condom ended up in the kitchen to begin with, but it’s clear to assume that McDonald's practices safe eating.
1. Human Flesh
Via arbys.com
When I think fast food, I immediately rank Arby’s the lowest on the list. Let’s put it this way, if an Arby’s was the only food source I would encounter within a 24-hour timespan, I would choose to starve. I’m quite positive that if the Miami man who found skin in his sandwich was given the same choice, he would agree with me. Rather than finding chicken skin in his chicken sandwich, the man allegedly acquired a piece of human flesh measuring about three-fourths of an inch long that was mixed in with the lettuce that was on his sandwich.
“It looked like I was seeing fingerprints on it. I got sick and went to the bathroom,” the man admitted in his official statement. It was later discovered that the manager sliced his thumb while shredding lettuce and failed to throw out the contaminated leaves after sanitizing the work area. Do you see now why I would rather starve?
