Uber has announced it will install voice control for hands-free driving to keep its employees and customers safe.

In the past couple of months, Uber has endured some changes that will make their company safer for their drivers, which now includes voice control. The ride-sharing app announced last week it has officially launched a hands-free feature so drivers can talk to passengers while picking them up without having to jeopardize their driving.

There are many cases when a driver has trouble finding the pick-up location. Instead of having to use the phone while talking to the passenger, the driver can now use hands-free which will directly link them to the customer. It is not only more accessible for the driver to navigate, but also safer.

The voice-activated command also eliminates the driver having to click through the app for information when having an issue. It seems like a no-brainer to have voice control on the Uber app but it is a functionality drivers, as well as passengers, have wanted for a long time. The new functionality was officially released last week, and so far, there have been only a few issues with the voice control.

Along with adding a voice-activated command to the app, Uber has also added better data privacy, as well as automated crash detection. Customers will recall last year the company had a massive data breach. Now, Uber is making the address and location more vague to ensure customer privacy, meaning instead of including exact pick-up and drop-off location in the ride details it gives a more general address.

It is unclear if this will affect how precise the app is when picking up and dropping off customers. After all, the Uber is not the greatest at picking up correct at the exact location as it was, meaning there were issues with picking up at the actual location a customer requested. Many times the location pick up was off by at least a half a block.

Uber is working hard to right the so many wrongs it has had over the past year. They have released safety features that will be beneficial to both customers and drivers. What do you think about the new functionality Uber is releasing, is it useful or not?
